As we move swiftly from drought to flood I find appreciation in how quickly change occurs. To embrace the change which is out of our hands lends to a deep peace. Be it drought or flood, we let go of the idea that there is a problem to embrace the now. The present moment brings adventure, moving with the change and working with what is at hand to make the best out of the situation. The adventure is moving into the unknown with enthusiasm, from day to day I have no I idea of what will happen nor what to expect but I learn to dance to the changing rhythms of life in appreciation of how it all unfolds. Lake Texoma has been on the rise coming up 2 ft per day at the peak of the inflow, as of now that flow has tapered off a bit and continues to rise at almost a foot a day with more rain in the forecast. The lake is at 635 and will top the spillway in five more feet at 640 which puts it around Memorial Day to go over. At Little Mineral we still have power on right now and there is a raft set up to get back and forth from our boathouse. Im grateful to Tim and the crew at Little Mineral for everything they are doing help make this situation the best it can be they are doing a super job. Im driving my boat to the parking lot to pick up my customers and parking my boat where I used to park my truck. Fishing the flood is truly and adventure everyday. Yes were still fishing and yes the fish are still biting. The big fish seem to all be back from the spawn and are roaming about the deep water, and deep water is everywhere. Ive been having my best luck fishing on anchor just ahead of the mud line and calling the fish to me by beating the water. Weve been bringing home around 20-30 fish on average per trip and weve been catching a most all of our overs as well. The fishing is good now and Im seeing signs that it will keep getting better. One of the best things about the flood is that it will reduce the boat traffic and thus the pressure on the fish so it should allow for some fantastic fishing this season. The last time it flooded we were catching big fish in the tree tops on topwaters and sassys, hopefully there will be more of that to come this year. I operate based on the gift economy so there are no set rates, we go out fishing and after the trip you are free to give in return whatever feels right to you. I would love to take you out for this adventure fishing the flood so give me a call or go online to my website www.stripersinc.com to reserve your trip. Brian you are the MAN! Great report and glad you are doing good Now we all need to do a don't rain dance --LOL-- I have been trying the boot scoot boogie, the running man, the inch worm, the truffle shuffle, and the doe-si-doe, but none of those have been working. I think that if we change strategies and all collectively go outside and blow west that it should have a good effect on stopping the rainfall here. I have drawn up a model of the effect: Edit: The green line is the force field.

Anybody know if the islands are under water?
I feel bad for the people that make their living based on the boat traffic at Texoma? It was tough in the drought with them closing their ramps and now we see them having to deal with flood damage. I was going to take the family up for the Holiday weekend but may stay closer to Ole' Mudder Hubbard. I don't recall seeing $20 launch fees anywhere/anytime at Texoma.

Nice report and pics, Brian. 18ft over pool? That is wild! And it was even higher in 2007? Mind boggling for sure! Feel bad for the businesses effected by this.

Keith lmbo we need to get up there together soon. after reading this I may go to the private lakes tomorrow. They did not get as much rain as I previously thought. If I do make it up there I will make sure to report how it goes. Most may not know me on this part of the forum but I bet I can hang with anybody with those striped fish with the fly rod at that. Brian I am glad you are on some fish and I am glad to see it is not as muddy as I thought some places. I really hope all the homes and businesses affected by this make a speedy recovery And my prayers go with them and their families.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate all of the support. They have the flood gates on now but it doesn't seem to have put a dent to the rising water with all of the rain we got last night. The spillway will go over in another 3.64 ft. which shouldn't take too long. We'll be fishing all the way through and making it happen the best we can.

Nice fish and good job. I do however have a problem. Why is it the every time something happens on the lake to keep weekend people off, you and other guides are glad. Do ya'll not understand that whether it is a drought or flood that it effects lots of people. The quick stops can't sale bait, gas, or groceries. The marina's that you have to use to store your boat, make money from weekenders launching and buying things. Ya'll have the lake mostly to yourselves 5 days a week. Don't begrudge the people that don't get to do what they love to make a living a couple of days on the best fishing hole in the Midwest maybe one time every month or so. Keep the reports and photos coming. You write a very nice post, but keep the remarks about how much you like having the lake to yourself to yourself. Thanks
