Anybody build a carport out of anything besides wood? I'd like to build a lean-to type carport off of my current enclosed carport. What did you use to build it? The $695 carports jump up to over $1000 just because I want to attach it to my current carport. I don't know why.
Thought maybe I could do it myself.

flashing where the 2 attach would be part of the cost no leaks

flashing where the 2 attach would be part of the cost no leaks right on that. I'm debating on making it using galvinized pipe or plain black pipe with fittings for the framing part and then use rippled sheet metal for the roof. I guess I need to add it all up and see if it comes out a lot less than the cost of a pre-fab carport for $695.

I don't think you are going to beat that 1,000.00 dollar car port

Never checked it out, but the $695 carport seems like a pretty good deal. I am guessing that comes as a kit and build yourself?

I built mine with 2" x 2" thick wall steel tubing and used 16 gauge galvanized metal studs, anchored to the posts for the roof framing and attached the metal roof sections directly to the studs. It's held up great for 15 years and still no issues. I painted the steel tubing and faced the outer stud framing with a cedar band. It works.

Red perlin and square tubing is cheap. Got a welder?
