You're right, I am thinking about having one of the students video me trying to put out those condos, I figure America's Funniest HV might be in need of some more footage. Richardson Sleuth? What exactly is that area that you are referring to? I know that the land we border with is the Sid Richardson Foundation land, I guess that is where you are talking about, but I don't know what the landmarks are. I know the timber about 200 yards west off the bank, I know the cove to the south of me...where would I need to start? Is this the kind of area that you are only going to catch them during the spawn, or can I sustain life year-round on crappie meat in this area? Sorry for all the questions, just an excited fisherman.
by the way...here is a pic of me and a stud slab caught this morning at Tawakoni (where my dad is the city manager) ...I am the one with the yellow cap on laugh

coach, didnt get the pic.

yes, richardson slough is right behind the christian school, the timber in the middle is where you will find crappie year round, the deeper the timber the better. they will usually suspend at a deepth about half way up the trees themselves. bring you a rope and tie off your yak to one of the trees and you should be fine. there isnt very far to go from the shoreline to the shore line. minnows always seem to work the best for me at benbrook. the richardson area(in my opinion) is the best area on the lake for all species, year round. i wish they would build a public ramp behind the school so i could put in there in my bass buster, i would never even leave the area.....well accept in the summer to go chase the schooling sandbass in front of the damn!

Am I right in assumning that it is on the east-southeast part of the lake? Are there any landmarks I could key in on to let me know where I am or is there a lake map to refer to? i know lots of Q's. Thanks JD

Hey there coach, I am right up the street from you and fish your area all the time!!! I am actually right across the street from the school and there are many times that I am wading back in the back of richardson slough and have to walk past the school. Was it you that put those two BIG trees out in the water about 100ft from the shore? Last year or the year before, someone put two big trees right down from the school and to the left if you were walking down the hill. I caught a few crappie off the trees and a bunch of sandies last year. I bet they will hold tons of crappie this year.
The area that you launch is also a great spot to tear up the hybrids. By february, you should be able to catch a hybrid on every few cast if in the right spot and I cant wait for that time to arrive. Last year was just unreal due to the low water and hopefully this year will be just as good. The fish were stacked thick due to not being able to run up the creeks. You guys got me all excited!!!! A few more months and benbrook will be on fire!!! Nothing like catching tons of nice hybrids on 4lb test. Once you get sick of the long fights, you can always use 12. See you guys out there.

Keith

Davis, RS is located far north end of lake and east! It is the largest cove in that area and it goes way back with lots of sticks sticking up on the deep south east side of cove. You cant miss it, there is also a treeline at the mouth of the cove and in the middle of the cove(lots of guys tie up and catch tons of crappie along these trees). There is also two bars that run the length of the slough. Everything from large bass to hybrids can be caught in this area. During the summer months, this area is loaded with schooling fish. Ok, time to shut my mouth and let you guys find out the rest for your selves.

Great info guys...thank you for being generous with it! It would be great to meet up with you guys out there sometime soon. Post here about your next big trip, I'd like a shot at meeting up with you guys on the water...just don't dump me in my yak. I'll be in the green sit-on-top with too much gear. What size and color of jigs do you guys drop in the timber? Here's my second try at adding a pic.

Hey Keith, we are out of school until the 8th but I am planning on taking a trip out to the school and the lake for that matter this weekend. You thinking of running out there anytime soon? I did not have anything to do with the trees...but I would like to know where they are!!! I have seen a conspicuous plastic bottle about 100 ft off the shore that I could not wait to get in my yak and check out - is that bottle marking the said tree per chance? Just wondering. Sorry if you have ever been hastled for walking on the shore by the school, I understand that our maintenance man had been running anglers off. I got with him ans the other admins and let them know that it is totally legal to walk around down there...that we don't own the shoreline or any water for that matter.

I thought that too, but I have neve seen it checked and it has been sitting there since mid summer, but your more than likely right on...wish people would pick those up if they are not using them. I get distracted looking out my office window and wondering all day long if there is a mess of crappie under that bottle.

nice crappie in the photo, I hear it and others made a nice fish fry

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

when the waters back up, hit me up. I will show you some crappie locations that can be very easily yakked.... Once I am able to launch the boat again. Do you have a handheld GPS??? better invest in one, along with 4 marker bouys... Once you mark your spot, if the wind and waves blow you off- its easier to get back to that "sweet spot". All the spots I know that produce the best results are on your side......

Thats of course in exchange for some Tawakoni spots if you know em....lol. My gradual move from Benbrook to Mesquite has me looking, and searching at closer lakes...

Trailer skidmarks and I put in at Benbrook marina on Sunday with no problems ('20 Stratos). There is some brush right in the path of putting your boat in, but it's still deep enough. There's about 2 1/2 ft in the channel out to the flats. Wiggins I don't know how much you need to launch your new boat, but I don't know if I'd try it yet I suggest the point at Mustang. We sucked it up due to a billion mile an hour winds. We've been putting out piles and haven't been able to fish them a damn bit because of the wind.

We broke Jed (our tree clamp) and he is now at the bottom of Benbrook due to the Tsunami waves, our luck is bad so if you see us putting in just wait until the next day and it will be beautiful and no wind and fish will be caught by the truckloads.

SkeeterRonnie moving east???

I know some really good hybrid/striper fishermen over there on Tawakoni - I have only been there a couple times but I love that lake == real fisherman's lake!!!!

Coach...you better take SkeeterRonnie up on those locations...I got a couple from him cause I saw him catching fish on them...but can't give away another man's fishing holes since that probably would break a "Man Law" smile smile
