I was filleting fish at my slip and was approached by someone stating it was illegal. I tried to find info on the Texas wildlife site but couldn't really find anything. Can someone be so kind as to guide me to where I can find the regulation addressing this? Thank you.

From TPWD
In order to verify length and species, a fish caught may not have the head or tail removed and may not be filleted until an angler finally lands the catch on the mainland, a peninsula, or barrier island not including jetties or piers and does not transport the catch by boat. Broadbill swordfish, shark and king mackerel may have the head or tail removed, but the carcass must remain intact and may not be filleted.
Open to interpretation by who ever is reading or enforcing it.

Your boat slip is your home away from home. They normally don't say anything to someone cleaning their fish at a fish cleaning station on a dock. The GW told me it is ok to clean fish at a designated fish cleaning station, but not at the ramp, on your boat, or the water body shoreline. But if you have more than a two day limit per persons in the vehicle and are stopped on your way home to your permanent residence, the GW CAN write you a ticket for over the allowable possession limit. So don't stay three days or more and keep a limit for each day. Messed up wording in the regulation book. No wonder people can't understand it. It would be much better if it said "thou shalt not" and "thou shall"

I know of one guide that cleans his clients fish on his tail gate at the ramps with no cleaning station. He has been doing it for years with no problems.

50% of your time tending your own business and 50% of your time staying out of other peoples business equals a full time job. Would be nice if more folks had a full time job.
From Genesis: "And God promised men that good and obedient wives would be found in all corners of the earth."
Then He made the earth round...and He laughed and laughed and laughed!

They are an older couple a few slips down from mine. Probably retired....so they definitely do not have a full time job....LOL.

I have found that as long as you puncture the air bladder in the fish before you throw it in the lake so it will sink, most don't pay much attention to cleaning fish at the dock. If people see a bunch of floating cleaned fish, then they gripe.

If people see a bunch of floating cleaned fish, then they gripe. This! Floating fish carcasses end up on the bank and STINK. Carcasses put in dumpsters at ramps STINK and that is why there are rules against cleaning at ramps. I know of guides who clean fish in the parking lots of ramps that are never bothered by GW or COE. This is because they haul off their fish carcasses and dispose of elsewhere. Bottom line is just a little itty bitty bit of thinkin ahead bout how yer actions may effect other folks causes lots of stuff to be non issues. Perforating air bladders so carcasses sink and/or disposing of guts properly really solves a lot of potential issues.

There was a long thread on this some time back and the issue that was claimed to be a violation was that it was considered littering. I don't think I've ever heard of anyone being ticketed for it. I've cleaned thousands of fish at our boat slip and every carcass went right into the water. None of mine were able to float and cause a stink though. Nasty floating stinky carcassas washed up on the shore near a boat ramp can sure be obnoxious though. As stated above just puncturing the swim bladder, and or slicing them up to where they can't float would solve that problem.
