Marked a ton of fish on several of my deep spots, kept getting bit and could hook them decided to toss out a jigging spoon to see if I could catch some to figure out what they were. Here is what I caught should be a tasty meal for big bass.

Percina caprodes (Logprech). The name "Logperch" refers to the log like shape of its body. Logperch are common in north eastern area lakes, streams, and rivers. They are most often in waters that are clear, slow to medium moving, and have bottoms of sand, gravel, and boulders. However, they also live in some turbid rivers like the Mississippi. They are often found with other species of darters. Many reach 4-5" in length and usually 5-7 oz. They can live to a maximum of 4 years.
There's a species native to Texas and you are holding one in your picture. Paint it and they (bass)will come.

I thought it was a juvenile yellow perch, but you could be correct. I marked about 100 of these little guys on my go to deep spot today. I bet there won't be many of them left in a few more months when the big girls get out there.

Thinkin' this would catch some bass on Brads deep spots.
Quick pattern for a Logperch:

White base then Pearl White belly
Yellowish sides and back
Cover with scale mesh
Use a dart stencil for vertical lines
Moss Green vertical lines and back
Iridescent or Pearl Lime Green over the back
Detail if needed (Orangish fins, darken over eyes, peach/flesh around nose and jaw)

Tweak according to your preferences....then go fishing.

My plans for laying down paint got changed to deal with flood issues. Might be able to spray tonight. Good idea on the colors. I will probably build a stencil for the stripes though.

That's a yellow perch (Perca flavescens), not a log perch. Log perch have an dorsally shallow and long body "log like" as mentioned above, and a subterminal mouth (downward facing). What water body/drainage is that?
If bass will feed on those wouldn't a fire tiger type pattern work deep? (If you want it to stand out from the crowd).

This was my last attempt at the yellow perch, didn't turn out to bad for my second try. Need less yellow this time and more white.

I'd throw that one in a heartbeat, but I do agree about less yellow. Your vertical lines are too clean and straight. Nothing in nature is straight. Just my . I can't wait to see the next one you do.
