Hey all ! What's the deal with these reels ? I bought 2 of these at Sportsmans Warehouse in Lewisville and I paid 20.00 each. These are GREAT reels and I love 'em. What's the catch ? are they just a "lower end" series of a reel most of us have known for a long time ? Anybody know ? Thanks !
Keep 'dem lines tight and enjoy the fight....!

I buy 300's and 308's at our Wal-mart, for about $35-$39. I love these reels, I've been using them for about 3 years and plan on buying more.

The Academy on Bryant Irvin had 300X's marked down to $20 just before Christmas. Don't know if they still have them, although I will check later today. The old Mitchell 300 was a great spinning reel- they had their quirks but I used them in Florida for years in fresh and salt water. Pulled a lot of sheepshead out of bridge pilings with them. I would have bought a couple of 300X's but I already have 2 of them. Good reel for the money, especially for $20.

Yeah, looked like they were clearing out some old inventory. I heard them mention they were going to "remodel" the whole store this winter. At any rate they had one 300x left on the rack. A while back I was looking for an Ugly Stik to put a 300x on. They had the spinning rod for $26, but they had a combo for $27- same Ugly Stik with a Shakespeare reel.Wound up buying the combo. The reel works OK, but I probably should have bought the 300x yesterday, for 20 bucks it would be worth it to spare out the Shakespeare reel. Maybe I will go back today....

I don't have a newer 300, but the old ones were built like tanks and nearly indestructible.

You did get a good deal, usually 35 to 39 dollars. I've used Mitchell for almost 30yrs. For the money I,ve always thought it was the best around.

Picked up one of the 300X Golds (10 ball bearing and pretty smooth) at Sports Authourity on I-10 and Gessner for $31 today. They have three left. Had a bunch of plastics (salt water assasins, power worms, sluggos etc.) for .47 a package, mustad hooks of various types for $1.07 and a bunch of other misc. stuff on sale.

I grew up in port a in the 60's and literally wore out a couple of thes reels as a kid so when the came out afew years ago i bought a couple of them and they didnt hold up in the saltwater, they probable are fine in freahwater.
