My fishing partner has one on his Triton 186 I am sure if he was rich he would have 3 HDS12's on his Z521 Ranger but the HDS 7 does a good job

Mapping is slower than an HDS, but the image quality is very good.

I like mine. Like said above mapping is slower especially if you put a navionics chip in but the sonar and downscan is very good. I got mine for $450

Yes it was new. At the time it was $450 at academy and i price matched it at TW and ordered from there. Not sure if they still have it for that price. That was about 3 months ago

Taking mine back today, keeps shutting off for no reason, 3 times Sat., hope the new one doesn't do it. It's a nice unit except for that.

I paid $375 for mine and don't think it's worth even that.
Mapping is too slow to use, shuts off randomly. Overall, POS.
I'll try the software update before throwing it in the trash, but it will be replaced by an HDS asap

I have 2 one at console and on the bow and they both work fine, never shut off or mess up, the maps is a little slow and lags for a second or 2, the down imaging works great too, one thing I'd buy a map card, map comes with it kinda basic.

I have a 7 at the bow and a 10 at console. I really like them both, but I do have the same "shut off" problem with my 7. It will shut off every once and a while for no reason. I just haven't taken the time to send it in. I guess I should send it in since it seems that I am not the only one experiencing this issue.

Mine lags for more than a couple seconds, I'm talking like 10-15 seconds to load the Navionics image when I zoom into the 1ft contours

Mapping on mine with a nav chip in it is so slow I put an old 522c next to it just for mapping. Other than that it' a great unit.
If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space!
