I'm trying to figure out what I can do to get more distance when throw a C rig. If you could build the ultimate c-rig set up what would it be? Rod, reel, main line, etc.

I have tried just about every set up I have and I can't throw one worth a damn. I have put two swivels on to minimize the weight and beads sliding up and down the line so much on the cast. Used 30# braid, 50# braid. I can't throw one nearly as far as I want, any advice would be appreciated.

Short rig - 18 inches long - 1/4 oz. weight - Now the bait is the problem with the long distance cast. Stay with the stick baits. I fish one called a CATTAIL made by capt. Grumpy here on the forum. It looks like a Tornado but is a lot heaver. The rings hold water and allows it to throw farther.

What size rod etc?

I have a 7'11" GLX with an old revo premier.

65ld braid main line to 20ld flouro or mono depending on what i'm trying to do.

My leader is usually 2-3'

and I can cast it very far.

Shorten your leader to 18" unless you are in a lot of grass.
I use a 7'6" heavy with fast tip Loomis and can throw it a long way. Even with a 12" worm.

If you can't throw a C-rig a half a mile with a 1 oz weight and a 2' leader, something is very wrong with your rod & reel set up. I see a lot of guys that don't fill their reels all the way with line. You should fill your reel to within 1/16" of the edge of the spool no matter what kind of line you are using. With 30 or 50 braid, you should be able to launch that set up 40-50 yards with a decent reel and a 7' rod.

What rod & reel are you using?

don't focus on casting the whole rig. just focus on casting the weight. longer the rod the better.

The rod and reel is the deal.......7'6 Heavy, Extra fast.....smooth, high cap reel, Lew's super duty or the like......I like fluoro main line with mono leader

i am trying to envision your need for two swivels and am thinking that it is your casting motion that may be hendering you. c-rig is my favorite way to fish. the longer the rod the better. 3/4 to 1oz weight and use a sweeping cast. Your bead and weight should have no reason to slide up. I personally like to loosen the reel up quite a bit and make a long sweeping cast without using much of the tip. it is loose enough that it would cause backlashes on normal lure casts. let the weight really work for you.

i like a hvy rod well over 7' but it casts just fine over shorter mh rods for me. Leader length for me only becomes an issue when it is longer and strikes the boat diring the cast

I use a c-rig often. I think of it like swinging a base ball bat. You are casting the weight like others have said. It takes some practice but once you get the hang of it you can cast it pretty far. Keep after it!

I may need a longer Rod with a faster tip. The rods I have tried the most are 7' & 7'2" but they are heavy rods.

I can throw it alright just not like a big T rig or a big Jig or even a frog.

What Rod would you consider if price was not an option? I have been thinking about getting a falcon lizard dragger I don't know if they still make them but I see used ones around from time to time.

With Carolina Rigs, don't size the rod for the lure or try to throw the lure. Shortening the leader as suggested has no real benefit to benefitting the length of cast, it only makes your back cast safer if someone behind you is limiting your motion.

Size rod for the heavy weight. Time the release of a C-RIG cast with only the heavy weight in mind. Where the heavy weight casts, the lure will follow. They can be cast seemingly a mile with the right rod setup and timing of cast release.

Think lob shot when throwing a crig. Look up pendulum casting I bet you are trying to cast it like a trig.
