Current yes. Mainly shad. The shad will go up the river due to current and high oxygen levels and food coming from Lake Lavon being flushed out: then, the game fish will follow. Even when the spawn is over they will go up the river, to the dam. Takes about three days to four days for them to make it to the dam. They only have three gates open 6 inches. If they open a couple more: it's game on on Lavon Dam. Weighted bobbers and flukes on the big rods. Under 78 highway, there is a small dam. With only three gates open I do not think the fish will make it up to the dam. But they have before. But again I don't think it's enough water going over that small dam for them to really get up in numbers. They will congregate below 78 dam, and they become easy targets. Every species of fish will be caught there. Main problem is, we're almost out of rain. No more rain no more floodgate. If the gates are open for up to two weeks - the fishing down there is incredible.
But, with the current that is going through the river right now, is going to attract most of the hybrids and sand bass that are left in the lake, up to the dam. So I would say that RC will probably come to an end quicker than y'all think. Not all the fish are going to stop going up RC, but a majority of them will. In the past 15 years, when they would open up the gates, we would have small runs of fish up the creek, but most got diverted to the river.

Also Guys/Gals Hybrids do not spawn. They were created in a laboratory from a striped bass and white bass cross breeding. They will go up stream with white bass and mimik spawning but they are sterile.

Also Guys/Gals Hybrids do not spawn. They were created in a laboratory from a striped bass and white bass cross breeding. They will go up stream with white bass and mimik spawning but they are sterile. They are actually "functional sterile". From a article I read, hybrid x hybrid have a 1/200,000 chance to reproduce naturally because their eggs and sperm are often weak or misformed and are heavier then a striper egg but not heavy enough like a white egg so a suitable environment for the eggs to survive is extremely limited. which basically means the species can't sustain a natural population for more than a few generations thus they are "functional sterile". They can also crossbreed with both of the parent species and the chance of a offspring is much higher with a parent species since they don't have to depend on their own eggs and can just spray over billions of sandy eggs and produce a 3/4th sandy (still very uncommon due to the fertility of their sperm but happens much more often then most would think) And we all learned from watching Jurassic Park, nature has a way Here is a pretty good article, couldn't find the one I read before but this one is pretty good. http://www.arkansasstripers.com/hybrid-striped-bass-spawning-habits.htm

Could end up with a lot of sand bass with a small amount of striper DNA. Same goes for yellow bass diluting the white bass gene pool.

It's been a while since I've been out there. Thinking of going today though. It's at least a nice day, and the water's not raging from rain.
