I am using and still catching crappie off of cedar brush piles that I put out 12-14 years ago. The only thing better than cedar is cypress or bois-d-arc. Bois-d-arc will be there till you are a old, old man, doesn't matter how old you are today. This is my opinion about crappie BP's.

There's a difference in cedar limbs half the size of a pencil and a cedar tree with a 6" diameter trunk. We've put out lots of big cedar trees that are still yielding fish 12 yrs later. And we put out dead cedar trees. All the green on a fresh cedar collects silt and weights the limbs down to the bottom. Take a dead tree and thin out the small limbs and you won't hang up so much. Big willow limbs with some green work well also.

I try to go all natural. My buddy and I made several huge PVC trees this year and have caught very few fish off of them this year. You also need to give what ever you put in the water time to grow algae on them. Last year, my same friend, in the same boat stall had several Christmas trees in the water and we caught crappie, catfish, sandies and bass off of them all year long.

Is it possible to do something your whole life and still be an ameteur?

new to crappie fishing well not new just can't find them. I was thinking of making some condos as well. the ones you guys have posted look a lot shorter then what I was thinking of making. I have some 10'pvc was wanting to make mine 6'8'& 10' which would be better I know a lot probably depends on water depth. Something else how do you determine where to put them. will be putting some in fork & some in Grand Lake in OK.

Give me the coordinates and I'll see if I can find them for you.
