Well I had no idea my question would lead to such a discussion. The reason I asked it was because I know of many bigger fish and better stories to tell. I too have kept Blues up to about 25lbs and the meat to me was just as good. They were caught legally and cooked properly. I enjoyed the fish. I catch Blues in the 5-10lbs range more often and so they are the ones I keep mostly. I have released bigger fish than 25lbs. I guess I thought it was kind of a normal thing to catch some big cats. I havent been at it long but when I go I usually always catch a nice fish.

I really only target larger blues and flatheads when I fish. I bank fish mostly and really don't catch large numbers of big fish. For me personally its not about the harvest its about the challenge of landing the bigger fish. I dont have a preference on eating a larger fish or a smaller one. I've ate big fish and small and theres not a huge difference in taste, smaller fish are just easier to clean in my opinion.

For me its all about the challenge and size, the last thing on my mind is taking them home and eating them. I catch, snap a few pics, weigh it and throw it back. On the rare occasion that a fish manages to swallow my circle hook I'll keep it if I think he isn't going to make it.

News Worthy; I would say yes in regards to raising folks interest in a family time fun activity.
What better than father and son out enjoying fishing together. They have been fishing for years and never caught any fish this size. Then what better way to top off an excellent day than have a fish fry and enjoy the pleasure of visiting with family and friends. Congrats to the Robles on a fun and memorable fishing trip.

Why do I go fishing? To catch a box of fish and/or some quality time under the sun. Thank Heaven I never fail fishing in Texas, catching box fish or plenty of sunburn.
