I have went through a few crappie poles (broke with a fish on) and was curious who makes the strongest 12 foot pole? I use them for catfishing so I understand I am not using them for what they were designed for but I fish for cats out of a tube and need a 12 footer - with quality eyes not the fly rod loops.
Thanks!!

I don't use anything longer than 8 feet, so I don't know but would be, a good time to get on line and do some research. It may be the cheap glass is what you need. Unless you find someone who uses it just like you they will not know.

BnM SAM HEATON SUPER SENSITIVE. It is a Maroon Rod with Gold Eyes and it is made specifically for Crappie and Panfish. I have hauled two pound plus Crappie into the boat, but a catfish...have not tried. Like you stated you are not using it what it is designed for. They have them at Bass Pro, the BnM site, and Amazon.
Happy Shopping!!

I landed a 35 lb Blue on a Wally Marshall Signature Rod and was never worried about the rod breaking. I have also landed numerous other catfish, hybrids and bass that were 5 - 10 lbs on these rods. http://www.lews.com/rods-wallycrappie.php

I just bought couple of the 12' Pro Angler trolling rods (there is a trolling rod and a jigging rod available) and I haven't fished them but they seem to be pretty stout.

The 12' ProAngler is light and sensitive and has plenty of backbone. The new 12',14', and 16' rods are made from a new composition that is lighter and more sensitive. You're not that far from ProAngler Tackle in Allen. Give Ed a call and stop buy and get one in your hands before you buy. You'll be impressed how light a 12' rod can be and still lift plenty of weight. And the guides are stainless, not cheapies. I landed an 18 lb blue cat on my 8' ProAngler. And there was a video on here about 2 yrs ago of a yellow cat about 35 lbs being landed on a 10' ProAngler.

I've heard a lot of good stuff about the SAM HEATON series. Do you know if they have them at the Bass Pro stores or just online? I'd like to go check one out.

Pro Angler for sure. Below is a video of a catfish I had to wrangle out of a brush pile last year. I hook him at 6:18 in the video if you want to skip straight to it. The carp in the picture was caught a couple years ago and I caught another carp a couple weeks ago that was probably a little bigger than that one. All these fish were caught with my 10' Pro Angler jigging rod, along with a mess of crappie. But definitely consider a PA rod. http://youtu.be/8oFtc3oDjoI

Check out the B&M Brushcutter. Lots of backbone, high quality. I've got two 11'ers. They are the flippin rod of crappie poles.
