I can see pulling the boat right back into the trailer and tearing up the nose of the boat and the rear trailer lights or fenders. Wouldn't a rope achieve the same thing?

Go get you some 5/8 braided dock line 25 foot long and attach a heavy duty clip/snap on each end. I have been using this trick for years. The extra length lets you pull the truck and trailer up without it coming up to the boat ramp. This. I've been doing this since the 1970s, and have never had a problem. Quick, easy, and inexpensive. No need for gimmicky items, either. Dock line, 2 bowlines, and two carabiners do the trick. Just wondering, if I bought the 5/8" 25' dock line and two heavy duty clips/snaps, how much would I have spent. This shock absorbing bungee is $29. How much would I saved? I think the dock line has to cost at least $10 and probably $8-$10 for each of the clips/snaps so, just thinking out loud here. I realize it's not that difficult to launch by myself, but what I was looking at when I saw this was if it would just make it a little easier or more convenient so that I don't have to coil up the rope to keep it from falling off and getting underneath the truck tire or whatever. Not trying to say this is next best thing since ice cream on a stick but if it could making launching a little more pleasant or easier then I thought I'd just give it a try.

Without power poles, I only see this being convenient in very sheltered ramps and on wind free days. My new boat has a keel guard, but no poles so I still typically tie up to the dock when launching solo to keep my boat from either floating away or getting smashed up against the ramp

I've made something similar with anchor rope and some resistance bands from the gym. Just make sure you time it right to avoid banging up your keel.
I've got a buddy that does this with his power poles. Dump it in quick, pole down and then back up when you see it stop going backwards. pushes it forward gently and you can pole down again before it gets to the ramp

I used to tie my rope to [censored] end of my trailer back in the day! Back in and jam on breaks....boat floats off. .. Pull up slow until trailer pulls boat up to ramp.....pull it to the side and go park.... Oh to be young again!! But now my much larger boat stays snug enough on trailer that I back in enough to see back end float, crawl over nose and start big motor to park boat....get in truck and park.....I've been doing it by myself so long I'm faster than most two person teams....

CWorthy the Z Launch is a nifty deal. I have the 25 ft of rope and two rope climbing snaps at each end "deal"- it works great but it does have it's issues. Like you said driving over the rope has happened to me. It's well worth the money. I'm getting one soon!

Had buddy who would pull his triton right up to the boat ramp with motor running inlow forward position to keep on the ramp. He would quickly back truck up and drive the boat onto the trailer. I would be worried about the bow of my boat up running up onto the cement of the ramp even with a keel guard.

If your bunks were frozen or had ice on them from the day before, wouldn't you have to worry about your boat sliding off before it got into the water. I see at least one person forgetting about the strap and dragging their boat up the ramp.
I am going to buy one just to find out for myself. Half y'all lie like hell and the other half are full of chit. www.anglersprotackle.com/store, A great locally owned business www.bcfw.org Bass Club of Fort Worth

I use one. I feel like it is too short. The first time I used it my boat came shooting back before I got the trailerr out of the water and it ran into the trailer. I added another 15 ft of rope to it and now it works more to my liking. I like the shock absorrbing it does and now when it springs back it gently beaches on the ramp. When launching by yourself you have a choice: block the ramp with your boat while you park or block the ramp while you find a place to park your boat and walk back.

Now your blocking the ramp for the next guy while you go and park your truck. But my truck will be blocking the ramp until I park my boat on a dock or beach it. Either way the ramp is blocked for a few minutes by my boat or my truck and trailer.
Stress less, relax more. Go fishing.

In my mind, that's not a choice. I'd be livid if I was behind someone and they left the ramp blocked while they parked their truck. It takes less than a minute to get your boat over to the dock and jump back in the truck.

Ya I would only use it to slide off the trailer... Move the truck up to where the boat is at water edge! Then move boat to dock and back to truck to park! Should take any longer to do than normal... Just less getting wet to launch! I'm going w my buddy John! Just going to get about 30' of good rope and do it that way
