Man oh man the fishing the last couple of weeks has been really up and down. Two days ago I took a good friend and client out and we fish from 630 to 1045 not one bite zero nada zilch I said forget this we went back out yesterday evening and we caught 8 or 9 better but still really tough. Only my 4th time to zero out in 21 years...PAINFUL On a couple of days we found the birds working and we really bang them but most days total grind.About the only true pattern I've seen materialize is if you're not at the right place at the right time when they group up and feed you can either A.TROLL B. TREEL C. CAST FOREVER.We know most of fish are up the rivers doing the wild thing and the fish we are seeing most days are the smaller males with some decent overs mixed in and every now and then some big chunky females but for the most part they're doing what they need to do right now. during the spawn we usually can find some mid size and smaller fish up on or along the flats trying to spawn but those fish have been non-existent the last week for some reason a lot of fish in the main lake want to stay in deeper water and are not running shallow but that can change any day. I expect them to bust loose any second! I'll add some pictures later or tomorrow night cameras on the boat.

Six of us were fishing from the bank Sunday from 5:45am to 7am, not a single bite. This never happen before. The water was muddy though. Weird.

I went out for a few hours yesterday evening and picked up some box fish in the shallows (sand flats with stumps) with a few females still looking pre-spawn but I had to do your choice (C). Sassys in 6-12fow but no schooling. Saw bait holding at 15' in 40-50fow so that must be why many are staying in deeper water.

I will give you a little food for thought on why a lot of the fish are staying out deep and not moving up shallow chasing bait. I have noticed the last several years that at this time of year the box fish are gorging on small worms that are the larva stage of the gnats that we have on the lake, you can see them in their stomachs and fishes poop is green. I think they just get a little lazy eating those worms and it makes them tougher to catch, especially with lures since you need the fish to be more active. I guess most of the larva is down deep since we catch most of our fish on bait near the bottom in 40+ foot of water. Last year in May we were catching them near the bottom in 70 foot !!!. Years ago I can not remember the fish ever getting on this pattern but it seems to be the norm now.

Sounds about right. I still plan on going again to Texoma this week. It will be on someday.

I've known about eating the larvae for a long time but it still has been really tough and it has remained pretty tough.I got topwater fish yesterday and I thought it was going to bust loose but not one single topwater fish today and worked real hard for 17 fish.I brought the camera home I'll put some pics up tonight

I want to add that 17 is not a horrible day but we caught most in like 30 minutes and just never got another run so it seemed really really tough except for the glory Run
