I just received a phone call from a guy who says he was with Bassmaster. He asked me how the fishing has been lately and tried to make small talk but I was just like I know you're calling for a reason so get to the chase. He noted that I was doing the fantasy fishing and entered some sweepstakes (which I don't remember entering). He then asked me if I wanted to sign up for a 5 year membership for 5 payments of $25 which sounds high for BASS. I told him I just renewed for 3 years for like $30. He also verified my address which was old and I have been getting magazines for 4 months at my new house so something didn;t seem right there. All this plus some research I did online for that number has me thinking it may be some sort of scam. Some ppl online are saying they've called Bassmaster and they are saying they don't do this. The number was 210-538-3456 (TX number).

Anyone had anything similar?

They call me nonstop and I already have a multi year subscription. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a scam. They always seem to call at random odd hours too

Looked on their website and they are offering 5 years for $125 total on website. So not really a special that you must accept over the phone.

I told him to send me the magazine and I would mail a check to bassmasters.

If I don't want the 5 year membership I can return the magazine.

So we will see if magazine shows up. If it does, its apparently not a scam.

I've never been a member, but I didn't think $125 was that bad for 5 years with the free products. Wouldn't give them my card info over the phone though.

Go to Buckmasters.com and enter one of their contest using that number. Buckmasters is ruthless in calling trying to get you to buy something.

Sadly, Bassmaster has stooped to telemarketing and harassing it's own members. I can't believe it. I got a similar call a while back and the guy just wanted to know if he could send me some information on their 3 year subscription package ( my yearly subscription was up in a couple months). I said sure. Well, what they sent me was a bill. They said I had agreed to the 3 years subscription. Never again. Back when ESPN ran it, I didn't have to worry about junk business like this.

I had a very similar experience to cove crawler. Kept getting calls a few months after I started a one year subscription. Finally picked up and he gave me the hard sell of a five year commitment. I said send me the information in the mail and I will review it. I got it, decided I didn't want it for five years (a five year commitment costs the same as five one year subscriptions. It's dumb).

I started getting nasty letters from them which I ignored. Then I got one that said I was going back on my promise of a five year membership and they were going to send me to collections. I was irate. I emailed them with a timeline of what went down and I got a response a few days later saying they would stop sending me stuff and calling me and take the five year membership off my account. Fast forward to early this year and we got a notice from Discover that BASS had tried to charge a one year renewal to our card, which had expired.

I was irate again and emailed them back and after a week of back and forth with a few people they finally cancelled everything on my account, apologized for the "miscommunication" and said they wouldn't call or write anymore.

I don't believe them, but I haven't heard from them since.

Got the call from a really good salesman, given that I am in the sales biz and was so impressed with this guy I tried to renew for his pitch 5 years of bass master and bass times, for $125 was okay with me

But they wouldn't take my cc # over the phone or email me

Said they would snail mail it

Did the same thing to me. Charged my Discover that I never authorized. Even tried to charge me more than the advertised $25.
