I've heard Joe Pool lake has some big gills but I've never been there, just saw a post about it once in the bluegill section.

Depends on where you want to go. I went out yesterday to a small lake on Josey Ln, just north of the George Bush. It's about a mile maybe on your right. It's not very big, but there are some nice gills there. I caught about 20 and kept 14 about 6" long, using just worms. Move around and cast about 40 feet out maybe 3, 3 1/2 feet deep with a bobber, and stay ready. They were hitting fast yesterday. Fried them up this evening. Good luck.

Not to create offense, but are you not worried about eating from neighborhood ponds? Am I just overly paranoid? I grew up over by that pond and used to pull bluegill up with crickets all the time. My dad would never let me eat them. Maybe he just didn't want to have to clean them?

Jcazjr - Your talking about the pond just north of Frankford, correct? Where do you park?

The pond on Josey North of Frankford has some I know. I am not sure if that is the one Jcazjr is referring to. But You can catch them there pretty easy.

Don't fish in the Dallas area but the Bluegill should be close to starting their spawn. Here in the San Antonio/Hill Country area I have been catching nice gills in 3 to 8 feet of water. Fish are hanging around tree overhangs and on the shallow end of docks. I have also found eggs in several that I have cleaned.

I caught some nice hand size and bigger bluegill fishing Joe Pool at the State Park last week. They were hitting just about anything you threw at them. Caught them using a float, with the bait about six inches under the float.
The water was about ten feet deep but the bluegills were swimming about a foot from the top of the water. You could see them hitting your bait.

They are moving shallow now in Allen. I've been catching big BlueGills and Greens in the last week or two. After getting skunked on the Kayak, I hit a couple of local pond yesterday. This was the only bass that I caught that was picture worthy. I caught a couple more that were much smaller. This Green swallowed a 4 inch baby brush hog. Nice and fat little thing.
