First weekend fishing this lake, took the new pop up out and did some camping as well. Beautiful lake, and awesome place to camp. Fished the banks most of the morning Saturday and was able to get a few bites on a texas rigged worm. That afternoon around 4pm my wife spotted a school of striper chasing shad in about 18' of water. We caught a fish on every cast for about 15 minutes! Will definitely be heading back to this lake in the near future!

Not very familiar with the lake or i could give you better directions. If you put in at the boat ramp near post oak camping area it was on the west side of the island directly in front of the boat ramp.

Can't tell if they are stripers or not. Look like some monster whites almost. Great fish either way.

They are very nice fish and great job catching them. But they are NOT whites and most likely not strippers. What they are is Hybrid Strippers. Somerville has an a bundance of whites and hybrids. Nice to know the hybrids are schooling that early. Everyone ought to read the post on how to identify and diffentiat these great fish so that they stay legal and we all get to benefit from them.

Nice catch! Those are some nice hybrids. There are no stripers in Lake Somerville as I was told from a source since TPWD stocks hybrids only on Somerville. Correct me if I am wrong! I've fished for stripers for many years on the Arkansas River growing up in Arkansas before moving to TX, and we have fished Somerville for the last 20 or odd years and have never caught a striper only hybrids. Either case, they are a blast to catch and fight; especially, if they are schooling and hitting top water.
Tight lines everyone!
