Someone is gonna have to teach me this whole jig thing. I always have a jig tied on and I have every damn color they make but unless I add a minnow to the jig I don't get a damn thing. I use minnows pretty much all the time because I have absolutely no confidence in a jig due to not catching anything on them. Sure would be easier to just take some jigs and go fishing rather than having to stop for minnows before every trip.

But, the quickest way to learn jig fishing is to not buy minnows. I prefer jigs mainly because I don't like buying minnows. Some folks will say jigs catch more fish, or minnows catch more fish. Whatever. They both will catch fish. No, I don't want a debate on the matter. I will stick with my opinion that not buying minnows is the easiest way to learn to fish with jigs.

Maybe it was blind luck but I had a pretty good weekend on GV.
Keep in mind I am a bank buster and just cant afford a watercraft to get me around. I fished them boat docks off of Boathouse Dr on the Jones Branch. Keep in mind you cant get on the docks around the private boathouses but there is access a plenty to navigate and cast around them.
Spent 3 hours bouncing from dock to dock and managed to catch 15-16 slabs. Most were well under limit but managed to drag 6 of them home to put in the freeze.
I used a tube jig (Black body, Green Tail). I am not sure of the depth around those boathouses but most of my strikes came around 3 or 4 feet under the surface and mostly on the jig fall.
I fished from 6-9am.

A bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work.

DaveDave. Good advice and I agree with what you're saying. I Def don't want to argue your point as I really don't know which is true nor does anyone else. It's like the difference in soft plastic vs crank baits for a bass fisherman and falls more under personal preference but even more so under confidence. I learned to crappie fish with a minnow under a bobber or with a bait caster and a crappie rig right under the boat always using minnows. It's something that growing up with has made me confident in catching fish and I think we'll both agree that confidence catches fish. Anyway jigging is something I would really love to learn more about and as I said before I do buy them. All the time. I have EVERY color that looks like it would catch a fish or has a cool name. Lol. Maybe I'll take a guide out and get on some fish with jigs and gain the confidence. Thanks for the comment and I might give this whole "don't buy minnows" thing a shot, just as soon as I stop hyperventilating from the thought of it.

You cant teach greatness.

I'm not one that is a jig snob. Nothing wrong with minnows. The biggest bass in Texas was caught on a live minnow by a crappie fisherman.

Nothing at Scotts Landing today. I saw one fish caught on the next pier over (a little deeper) and likely on a minnow.

Was at Twin Cove marina. Only caught 1 and apparently I'm the only one who caught a fish all morning. Lots of debris and muddy water. I did walk down to the creek and found 6-7 gars about 4-6 inch of water just hanging out.

caught 5 small Crappie today.water is starting to clear up. HA HA HA! Not after last night's gully washer, it ain't clearing up! I'm really happy for all the recent rain, but after just getting back from a business trip to Lost Wages, Nevada, I was really hoping to get out and fish this morning. But not gonna fish in Yoo Hoo colored water. Ugh! As the song goes, when it comes to this Spring's spawn..."If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all". Lord, I may have to resort to the 'boat buddy' forums to beg a back seat with someone at this rate. Scott in Flower Mound
