I went out there (Old Alton Bridge area) this evening. The water level is dropping but there is still too much flow to effectively fish. The gar are pretty active on the surface. I didn't catch anything.

I went out to Old Alton as well. I saw the gar, and they looked like fun, but they had no interest in the jigs I had with me. Probably too much fish for me anyways.

Every 3rd cast or so all I caught was debris.

I'm still not sure if the spawn is over, I suspect that it is, but I'll be going back out to check once the water comes down a bit.

wow its over? I didn't hear of anyone catching their limits this year in this forum. May be people caught them but kept it to themselves.

I personally saw a few limits caught on days I didn't do as well. I heard stories of limits on days I couldn't fish.

Who knows?

I went out to Old Alton Bridge today.

The carp (buffalo?) were spawning like crazy. I foul hooked one but he broke my line right before I could get the hook out.

The next one I hooked on a small crappie jig, got the hook set, got it landed and had no idea what to do with it, being the first I'd ever landed.

I proceeded to get a few more on but I never could seem to get the hook set after that, and the would always spit it. I guess I was lucky to catch the one I did, because their mouth skin is like leather.

Saw a few gar, mostly carp though.

Anyone else have a different experience?

This was a really good year on hickory creek as far as the sand bass run. The creek was more than a foot higher than the last few years so the fish were able to spread out a lot more, it wasn't one big concentration of fish, or people. This last rain might bring up another small wave of sandies and hybrids, I hope it does but I'm not too optimistic about it. but like stewage said, right now it's almost all carp and gar. Next few days they will be in there if they're coming at all.

Went to Hickory Creek at Old Alton Bridge this morning.
The water isn't any lower than it was yesterday and is still completely opaque(more so than usual).

All the junk washed down makes for some fun relearning the creek bed and where I will be getting snagged.

Carp are still spawning.

Caught one decent sized male white bass on a road runner and then nothing.

I wonder if moving up the creek might be wise? Perhaps Country Club? I'm not really sure when the best time to fish that location is. It seems to reason that more water means the fish will get further?

Let me know what you guys think. The male I caught may have just be a straggler.

Is no one checking the 2499 bridge area?

I only fish on days that end in Y!

I guess that would be a good place to check as well.

I am, however, less familiar with that area.

I will stop by after work and poke around to see what I can pull up. I'll just look for trails leading to the shore and fish those spots.

Went to Hickory Creek on the way home from work. Stopped at the 2499 bridge. Underneath it the water up to the top of the rip rap.

The creek is really very wide down there, I had no idea. I have only been under the bridge a few times before and never with the water this high.

There was a gentleman there fishing with what I think were minnows under a bobber. He said he had picked up a sand bass before I got there, and he picked one up in the few minutes I was under the bridge.

I walked up stream some and fished a few spots along the shore, however I went home empty handed.

The buffalo are spawning like wild all on the creek. Their eggs are covering everything -- it kinda stinks to be honest.

Yesterday I went nearby Denton so I thought of checking near the Alton bridge. Water too high almost close to the bottom of the bridge. Few were fishing from Alton bridge. None of them ketch any
