I had planned to take my kayak out to Marine Creek lake, but when I woke up my back hurt, so I didn't think being in a kayak was a good idea.
I went to Capp Smith Park in Watauga from 11-3. Caught two bass in my first four casts on the north side of that little boat house type thing that juts out into the water. Then it slowed down quite a bit as I worked my way around to the west side of the lake. It rained a little and was windy but they started biting again. I stayed on the western side of the lake the rest of the day and ended up catching 11 total. The largest was 3/4 of a pound probably. So many dinks but it was fun, though. Pond scum wasn't too bad yet, which was nice.
All fish were caught on soft jerk baits. Some hammered it, most of them just swam off with it while it was paused.

Capp Smith park Update... 4/14/15
I am new to the forums but I am a avid Bass, Crappie fisherman. Mostly beat up banks as I have no water craft to get me out and about. Ran across this post and decided to give this little pond a run...
Fished from Noon until 1:45 pm Overcast 59* Winds out of the north 10-15 MPH Water Stained Texas Rigged 7 Inch Motor Oil / Chartreuse Zoom U-tail.
Caught 3 bass right on the edges of the boat house mentioned above. 2 Bass off the south wall close to the fountain in the middle of the pond.
All fish was in the one pound range.
If you live in the Watauga area and just want to cast around a bit I would highly suggest this little hot spot.
/Cheers
John

A bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work.

Ty Duck, Let me know if you are going to hit up anymore local area ponds and I will be happy to fish them with you.

Yep, definitely a numbers lake, although I've caught some decent ones mid-lake in the summer, as long as I can cast past the pond snot. It's a nice place to change up from the Trinity with bank access all the way around the lake. Has anyone caught any bass in the upper lake above the spillway? It still has cattails.
I think someone caught a five pounder there last summer at the Bass Grabber's tournament, right, Russ?

Went to Capp Thursday. Water was clear to stained. Some vegetation is coming up; sword shaped plants, brushy pond weed and beard/hairy algae. Saw some snails and muscles. Turtles. Ducks. Minnows.
Caught two small perch and a bass on a small brass rooster tail with green skirt. Hooked into a good size perch, but it got away.

Good report. I was there Sunday. Caught three bass, one was my largest at Capp Smith (about two pounds). I even caught one in the upper pond. I tried up there because it was so crowded below I couldn't take it.
Water was stained. Pond snot is definitely coming in.

5pm-630pm. Sunny, hot and breezy. Brown stained water. Two small sunfish.
The park is also a Pokemon gym. Maybe expect to see more people for a little while.

I have been to Capp Smith many times this year. Every bite has been a been a dink. I live just minutes away, but I now refuse to go because its very slow and just not worth IMO.

Went this morning. High 50s. Light breeze. Muddy brown.
Saw a snapping turtle. First I've seen there. Guy told me he's seen large carp. I doubt it, but may try for them. Hadn't seen a snapping turtle before today, either.
No fish landed. Just some light bites.
I did see a few small schools of minnows.
