Wow. Cali is on fire. Headed out for a quick trip before church. Had to back out of our annual catfish trotline trip. Family emergency. Got to lake at daybreak. Wall. Threw live anything freeline and it was one after another for an hour. 4 on at once. 3 at a time 2 at a time. Non stop fun. Dead after 1 hour hit the rocks for blues. Same luck. Big 5 to 7 pound channels and blues. A bonus 15 pounder. Threw it back. Kept a few to fry up. One of the best trips in a while. Oh. And yes. We got slammed by the rain. No wind thank goodness. But whew cold and soaked. The bite was fantastic in the downpour. Zero striper. Kind of shocked. Only 1 so far this year and that was on the wall. Where are they? Last year had caught about 100 or so by now. All 17 and 3/4 inches of course. Game warden checked me at cleaning station on easter. Forgot to mention thatl last report. Two new ones. One took my picture with the fish cool i thought. You know the saying it dont get no better hehe

By the way. My bro ended up going for a day to choke. They caught about 70 crappie on jigs in the rocks. Only 30 or so keepers. A few whites.

Moved to dallas area so Wana make most out of the trip. Looks like weather gon a be rough friday and saturday. I also got a set of electric downriggers. Not sure if I should use em. Any info appreciated.

Bass in Calaveras are few and hard to locate. The lake is mainly full of Redfish and Catfish. Down riggers are a plus. Most ppl troll with silver or gold spoons over and around humps. I prefer the wall. It's in the middle of the lake at the main intake too the plant. Circle hooks work good. Tilapia or perch are good live baits you can simply free line. Cast out towards the plant. Also head on shrimp (purchased at HEB) work well under slip cork or balloon about 6ft down. Good luck out there!

Nice info. I'm just gonna try Lil of everything. I had a patient when I lived in austin. They had what was about 11 lb bass or so mounted real nicely. But this was caught way back when. I wondered about it. Last year did a fishing guide with a and s on braunig and said the same few bass numbers. Well hopefully I can post something g good here next week when I get back. Prob hit it sundy if weather good. Looks like Friday and Saturday is gonna be all stormy weather. I be in the red nitro fish in ski with two downriggers and more fishing poles then needed for an army. And of course two stupid looking guys in it staring at everyone catching fish.

Have not caught a black bass at calaveras in years. The wall is hot cold. The reds move in and out. Way down the channel is sanctuary i guess. Just got to be lucky for sure. Wait em out. Always worth a heat check. Especially when its not packed. Freelining has been good to me last few years. But it is super fun in july august throwing anything silver. Castmaster bombers you name it. You will know it has been on when you cant buy a slot on the wall. Jam packed.

Throw a soft plastic craw fish of your choice up in the little spots where reeds are. They are few and far between, some to the left of the boat launch before the dam. You will catch a bass. We hit them up from time to time when its slow out there.
Best of luck, Scott
