I stopped by to check it out. I tossed in my line with no luck. I met an older gentleman who I spoke to. Within 10 minutes of talking he caught one. He said he would leave as soon as he caught 3. I walked away and came back and he was gone. Live minnow is what he was using. All the other guys I spoke to caught none. I did notice one guy with a stronger full but didn't get a chance to talk to him. It's slow, but what I've learned is, one person will slay'em and the next will go home empty handed. Unfortunately, I'm usually the latter. However, I saw buffalo carp everywhere. And I heard there was plenty of far as well.

Carp fishing is a blast. All you need is some bran flakes cereal. Make it up as a doe ball and hang on. They will sick that doe ball up and take off with rod and reel in hand. Never turn your back on a rod while fishing for these guys. And you better be lighting quick to grab it before they drag it into the water. So much fun to catch, good fighter.

I got two when I got there both about 14 inches and then didn't catch anything for 3 hours. Lost a couple lures, saw it as a sign to leave.

This river fishes weird. It always has though. Difficult place to figure out. Catch a bunch one day and struggle to get a few the next. I'm tickled pink to have caught the few I did this year. I had a few patterns I stuck with and they did ok, but I had to fish really hard for the ones I caught.

Awfully quiet from the steps lately. I guess the bite has slowed? I didn't make it out there this year. since my surgery, I'm just too out of shape to get up and down those steps. Maybe next year.

Shut up and fish!

Actually, it's pretty much over. You can still find a few small males around Comanche and down river chasing shad, but they are small. Like 6-9 inches small.

I love fishing the San Gabriel during the White Bass run! The biggest I've caught went 16 inches!

That whole area is flooded now.
Can't get down all the steps.
