When money is on the line you need a reliable motor. That being said when they have all the bugs worked out on them it should be a great motor. No other engine on the market makes the torque the g2 does.

Where is this info located? I was at rayburn the last few days and talked to Larry Nixon about his G2 'Rude and he said "if it holds up it will be a hell of a motor" I figured the "if it holds up" part means it's a pain in the neck

The g2 should make more torque. It's hiting power every stroke but the yamaha 4stroke technology is incredible. If you want you can make the sho scream, if you unleash it. I believe it would outsell the proxs if it was cheaper purchase price. But for 100$ a year for an oil change it sure makes things nice. Also the 5mpg average at 4500rpm helps (best of my calculations)

I just bought a new 250 ZX with the 250 YAMAHA SHO and drove it for the first time Saturday. Wow, That's all I can say. I added two power poles and more stuff then I care to talk about, but this will be my "last boat" an I wanted a good one. By the way, the latest issue of Bass Angler Magazine has a great article on the Yamaha 250 SHO. The Mercury and Evinrude folks won't like it much, but I think it was fair to all. It also recommended 89 octane in the SHO as opposed to the 87 that F&S told me to use. Anyway, good article.
Good Luck

87 octane for 200 but 225/250 calls for 89 octane minimum. Also make you you get the engine hot and let it cool. Repeat process to make the rings seat.

No other engine on the market makes the torque the g2 does. That is so true Brad, many haters now against the G2, but I have ridden in several and just hearing the dock talk. I am a huge Mercury fan, but the new G2 has tons of torque, fuel efficient, and doesn't look like designed in 1950's. Several problems, but most are little computer issues that will get worked out. Give it a year or two. I guarantee when the other companies redesign their engines to catch up they will have teething issues too. That said I'm pretty loyal to Mercury still.

Turn the cowling on this 1956 Rude vertical and it looks very much like the G2. As a SHO owner who has never blown one since they came out, I'm kinda laughing at the G2 being hailed as the greatest thing since sliced bread. Rude's the one's trying to play catch up right now, Rob. And their last 2 stoke offering sucked, too. I'll stick with Blue or Black. http://smalloutboards.com/antiques.htm

that will be the day when mercury an Yamaha try to catch up to brp. the biggest hill they have to overcome is that they are priced higher than the other motors.
