I got my first boat this weekend. My cousin upgraded and in sorts passed this boat down to me. It's a 14' V hull Jon Boat. Motor runs has a trolling motor and 2 batteries. It's a boat I've fished out of many times with him but he fishes on Lake Fork. That's 2 hours for me so I guess what I'm wanting to know is without giving up someones "spot" anyone willing to give me some ideas on where to fish on either Lake Lewisville or Lake Ray Roberts. Each of these are within 15 minutes of me and I have just never fished either of them from a boat. I have some ideas just looking at maps but also have to consider with such a small boat and the winds so crazy during the spawn I need somewhere semi close to the ramp. Any advice is highly appreciated.

Thanks

How neat to get a boat, congratulations. I don't really know Ray Roberts, do they have grass?

I did a quick look, hopefully someone with first hand knowledge will give you info. The ramp I put an arrow on is close to some really good looking water NW, lots of coves to fish and that long point looks good.

Good luck!

Hey thank you very much. The lake is going up so a few of the coves that I'm sure wouldn't normally have grass do right now. it's covered in trees a lot like fork is in the areas I've been.

my best spot on Roberts is up in Spring Creek. From 35 take E Loan Oak rd (3002) east, cross second bridge turn right to boat ramp. after unlading, go under second bridge on the right from the ramp (in the north west fork) go up in there as far as you can and there are several places to catch them in 2ft heavy brush/timber. Once you get up in there you will be out of the wind. Look on google maps and look for the rail road bridge that crosses the creek. the bend before that is a great spot if you can get that far, depending on water level. google map coordinates are (33.456739, -97.152246). this should help you a lot! i'll see you there. lol i'm in a white/black stratos. just say "hey Russ"

Hey thanks a lot Russ. I'll have to give that a shot. I'm really excited to get it on the water and get on some fish.
Thank you SlabExpress couldn't be happier.

You could put in at the Little Elm Park (south of the 720 bridge on Lake Lewisville) and head north. There are a lot of standing timber and small coves with grass thanks to the rising lake. The fishing has been off so far this year but with some warm and sunny weather, that could change in a hurry.

Congrats. Id bet you could do pretty well if you put in at jordan park and fish around wolf island. It'll offer you plenty of timber and cover for bass and crappie and some flats that I've found extremely productive for sandbass. Hope this helps I'll probably see ya around out there eventually.

Crope1 is def correct also if you wanna head up and put in at pecan creek ramp and shoot over to spring creek it's by far my favorite especially in windy conditions. It's about like a live fishing forum this time of year to because with the spawn looming there's a lot of close quarters boat traffic that I pick up a lot of info just sitting there talking in passing.

Thank all of you very much. I will be sure to give each one of them a try and look forward to seeing some of you out there. I was talking to my wife earlier about possibly keeping it off the water for a couple of months and doing some things that it really needs. New benches, paint (or strip and polish) electronics, possibly a front deck (has front storage area but has the door right in the center), I may think about moving the gas tank to the front as I have already done with the trolling motor battery to help it plane out. Installing rod holder (I put some on but now that they're on there I don't care for my rods sticking up and forward the way they are they seem to get hung up in the trees pretty easy. I would love to have a live well and a live bait tank that is more permanent and not something getting kicked around. Any ideas on that end would be appreciated as well. I'm a crappie fisherman more than anything but I love to do any type of fishing. Just like to feel the pull on my line.

Thanks again everyone.

A lot of fun in fixing up your boat my first one cost me $400 from Kansas. I put floor boards in it new carpet, re-wired the trailer. I made a live well out of the middle seat it was hollow I built one out of wood had a friend fiberglass the inside, pump the water from the transom into the live well and an overflow for the water to leave on the side of the boat. I didn't have a drain though, need that, drilling a hole in the bottom of my boat well ... didn't seem like a good idea. I figured re-circulating was okay. Now I think an ice chest for crappie is fine.
