I have played with this forever and here is what I do. I buy bulk spool off invisx and big game 20lbs. When I can I use 65 lbs braid, I have never broken braid on a fish straighten lots off hooks. I use back up line and spool 100 yds often some times the next day if I see the line does not feel like new. So much can happen to damage line especially fishing for bigger fish. I have caught large fish on really light new line in open water. The comments on wetting knot is really good advise. I think the biggest mistake I use to make was spending so much money on everything else and trying to find deals on line and lures. And after much reflection and failure the three most important tools to get bit are rod line and lure. You can fish out off a jon boat and with good tackle whack them. Good luck and God Bless.

Going to fork week of April 20 th. Curious how a bass can break off on 20 lb Seagar. He said he could not turn fish. Obviously I've never experienced this. Would like some feedback on ways to avoid losing the fish of a lifetime. I just upgraded my pitchin stick to a Dobyns 735 mag heavy. Shouldn't this rod be strong enough? I ordered 17lb Seagar invisix to put on it. This is in reference to a post earlier where 6 fish were lost. I absolutely love InvisX, but don't for one minute think it's abrasion resistant. Seaguar makes different varieties of each of their line types, resin mono, fluoro mono, briad, etc. InvisX is supposed to be "Soft, supple and castable." Never does it mention abrasion resistance. The AbrasX variety might be more what you want on your pitching stick if for some reason you don't want braid. Tatsu of course is the cream of the crop. Best of luck and you've got some great info above. Retying often and cinching that knot properly are so huge. Tight lines.

dont be shy to retie. keep your drag tight enough that you can get a good solid hookset but enough that he can take drag out. always wet your line before tightening your knot. use good quality hooks i prefer gamakatsu but there are many good brands out there. I run my fingers down the first 8 feet of line or so to feel for abrasions, if so then re-tie. hope this helps you catch your dreams! tightlines

I have to break Sunline Sniper #20 with the trolling motor!!! No bass is breaking that unless I did something wrong.

+1 on frequent retying/checking your line. Also, I use mono or braid. Just don't care for fluro.
