Hey Everyone,

I'm needing some suggestions. I just started a lure company (I do not want to advertise, so It will remain nameless). We buy plastics from Anglers and turn them into new baits. It costs me $15.99 to recycle 1 pound of old, ugly plastics into 18 completed packs (90 baits). I have a company that will be doing the manufacturing for me. Anyway the response has been HUGE, I'm getting messages on Facebook every 10 minutes from anglers around the country. I have anglers offering me 100+ pounds of old baits. I have had lure companies contact me with HUNDREDS of pounds of scrap plastic that they want to sell us.

I'm a college student and have $200 to my name, so money is my big issue and the only thing holding me back from making a difference in the industry.

Does anyone think a Indiegogo or Kickstarter campaign would work?

I REALLY want to make this happen

If you are able to get the word out to the online fishing community, there's no reason it wouldn't. Just make sure you have your ducks in a row before going forward with it.

When you start a kickstarter make sure to ask the anglers willing to send you plastics to share the link. It is all about pure volume, the more people that see it the more money you could raise.

I'd be interested in investing.

Kickstarter is awesome for sure. I do fab work as a side business and I just put my name out there x's 1000. Tell anyone and everyone you can. I've gotten huge jobs from the guy who does my inspection just from mentioning what I do.. You never know who will have that magic friend or phone number. My best piece of advice is as mentioned above. Make absolutely positive you have your sh*t together before you do it. Otherwise you'll do nothing but lose time, money and customers.

Don't ask people for free money. Gather up 12lbs of plastic and use your $200 to make your first run of 216 packs.

Sell those packs and use your profits to grow the business.

If you can't make that work, then it's not a viable business, and you should stick to doing whatever you're studying for in college.

Because that is how kick start works. He is in college and obviously isn't totally funded by daddys money like some students are.
I say go for it and I will donate several pounds of plastics myself to help.

BTW Skipper, you need to learn to read. He did not say he didn't want to use his own money to get started, he said he only had $200 to invest. I know what it is like to be in college and broke all the time. Some people don't.

Kick starter offers a chance for people to invest in start ups they believe in or think have a chance to fill a need. Often times, people fund these endeavors because they want to be able to purchase the end result. Instead of gathering angel investors or getting a loan from a bank, it gives people of a like mind a chance to help something succeed.

Good luck, kid. Don't worry about the people who aren't familiar with one of the new ways to get your startup off the ground. If you need any advice, I'll give you honest feedback, no equity stake needed. I like your idea.
