Kinda a cross over fish to me. They eat good. Have also caught some nice flatheads and blues on live ones.

Caught one on Granger last week that measured 30 inches long and 21 inches around. Guess it weighed close to 20 lbs. Would it have been good to eat? I let it go, didn't want to carry it up hill to my car.

Small pumpkin seed drum about a pound or 12" eat good. Fillet and remove the red meat like sand bass. They are better eating than those green trash fish IMO. I don't care for big drum. Fishy tasting and slimy when cooked. They are sure fun to catch. Best bait for drum is small white crawfish about 2" long.
Red River is loaded with drum about June. Never used any for cut bait.

From Genesis: "And God promised men that good and obedient wives would be found in all corners of the earth."

Then He made the earth round...and He laughed and laughed and laughed!

They are legal to use, but I can't believe what my local game warden said. He said it is illegal to take a drum by throw net and use it for bait. Does anybody know if this is true or bs?

Had a senior brain fart, was a buffalo not a drum. Still would like to know if it would have been good to eat.
