Hi new to Texas, I've been a Lake St Clair and other gin clear Michigan lakes and east coast fishermen until this year.
Went out today on Grapevine and saw a number of people trolling - At first I thought they were drift fishing for cats or something?

Are there hybrid stripers or something?

BTW - selling all my luckycraft silent pointers no way they can be effective here. 1 foot vs 3- feet vs 20 feet all look the same.
Looking forward to figuring this fishing out.

Most likely fishing for white bass, lots of em in Grapevine. Very game little fish, will bite most anything, and strong fighters. No hybrids in Grapevine Lewisville, close by has them. Welcome to Texas, have fun learning about our fish.

Hey Kensho, Like Jackthe said, its probably White Bass, Grapevine was stocked with Hybids along time ago, probably not many, if any left. Some guys do drift fish for channel cat. Welcome to Texas.

some guys will spider rig for crappie, you will see 4-6 rods off the front of the boat while using the trolling motor to work an area,if the rods are off the side or back they are most likely pulling a hell-pet for sandbass, lots of info on in the sandbass forum on how to build a hell-pet,but it is basically a hell binder with the hooks removed and a bell weight added to the front hooks spot and a #13 pet spoon on an 18"-20" leader tied where the aft hook was,the more line you let out the deeper it runs, they work great for sandys and stripers. BTW don't get rid of the silent pointers they will be deadly when the sandys start schooling in a few weeks.
