 ? Replacing Bunks Ques

In replacing my bunks which is the 'better' fastener option?
Lag screws from underneath like original? Problem here is what happened last fall, screws had fallen out of the rotted wood and I was lucky I didn't damage the hull launching.
Hex or carriage bolts (countersunk so there's no 'bolt head bump' to damage the hull) from top side of bunks. What I wonder about here is will the countersink 'dimples' be a problem with collecting water?

each to his own, i guess. i countersink hex head bolts with nylon nuts and washers on the bottom. i don't put carpet or nylon on my boards either. the carpet always held moisture that led to rot. i've been doing this for 10 yrs or so with no scratches or stains on my hull. i also put a 2x4 under the bunk turned sideways and counter sink deck screws to hold it. it keeps the bunk from bowing so much. like i said--each to his own.

I did the carrage bolts Ditto, picked up some galvanized ones from Home Depot and bolted the bracket to them then carpeted over them. I also chopped up an old bed frame to make new brackets as well. They look good and are super strong.
