Thoughts on this business that I started? (I am NOT trying to promote/advertise - I just want honest opinions)
I founded WILPA this past month as a 19 year old college freshman attending Mount St. Mary’s University in Maryland. I simply wanted to start something that matters in the fishing industry. Our mission is to prevent the dumping of 20 Million pounds of soft plastics into lakes and rivers that occur every year.
What does WILPA do? We buy old, scrap, torn up soft plastic lures from anglers around the country. We pay the angler by the pound, $2.60 for each pound of baits that they send in to us, as well as their shipping costs. The average angler sends us 10-15 pounds of various soft plastics. We are currently working with a bait company in Oklahoma that both processes the plastics the angler sends in, but also melts down the baits and recycles them into new baits. In addition to helping the angler as well as our waters we also support the manufacturer.
Each pack of our baits retails for $1.49 for a pack of 5 (50% below what other soft plastics retail for), and wholesales for $1.20 per pack. It is my personal goal to have products that both help the industry and it’s anglers, but also be affordable for any and every angler on the planet. For every pack we sell wholesale $0.03 will go to the following causes. Bassmaster magazine named Pollution the fourth biggest threat to the future of bass fishing and our mission is to stop to in its tracks.
$0.01 To Water Policy (FOOD & WATER WATCH) $0.01 To Invasive Species (American Fisheries Society) $0.01 To Pollution and Habitat Loss (National Wildlife Federation)
The name WILPA Stands for the following causes: W = Water Policy I = Invasive Species L = Loss of Access P = Pollution and habitat loss A = Apathy and Indifference

Some of the larger bait companies offer REGRINDS in specific colors low prices. You may try contacting them. I know of a Bass Fishing Guide at Falcon lake that has a truck bed of used soft plastic baits! Other guides may have a large supply as well
