Great info here guys. I rarely fish Hubbard and not familiar with the slots, legal lengths, etc. What is the legal length on the Hybrids?

I hope everyone helps with this If you see people taking illegal fish please call the game warden.. dont forget .. everybody that buys a fishing license or pays taxes is funding this ...that is your money they are stealing .. huge difference in making a mistake with one fish and keeping dozens of small hybrids knowing you wont get caught..

There is a responsibility that goes along with being a fisherman. Take the time to learn how to identify your fish and obey the law. Rules are written for a reason.
While those who break the laws may not take the time to read posts or even visit something like TFF it is even more of a reason for other fisherman to be vigilant. With our lakes coming up it is going to be a great year of fishing, be courteous and kind to other fisherman.
Well said and great reminder/education for all of us.

You're correct that confronting a blatant poacher who is keeping undersized hybrids may be troublesome.
But, it often pays to chat up the person fishing near you - you can figure out whether they really know what they're doing, or they honestly don't know the difference. Makes it easy to educate them a bit & show them the difference in the types of fish.
Easiest way to start the conversation is when they ask you if they can keep that "big sandbass" that you're throwing back. Their response to your reply that it's undersized hybrid will tell you if it's worth talking with them further. was at one of the creeks two days ago, walked up and started fishing next to another guy, real nice fella asked how he was doing and he said ok and had 5 sb and a Hybrid on the stringer he said got a hybrid "I think" I looked at the stringer and said yep that's a hybrid and it looks to be short, the fella honestly didn't know the length rule and immediately threw it back, the next cast I got one the same size about 16 inches...

This is a Rowlett Creek hybrid caught today. Every hybrid right now that will be caught is undersized. They are running with the sandbass just like they have been doing on the main lake. This is its toothpatch, sorry for the blurryness. But hope it clears them up. That looks like a single tooth patch to me. Looks like the illustration of the white bass tooth patch. Actually, it looks like tooth patches on the sides too, making 3 patches(I catch them like that). Sure is confusing. I throw back anything questionable, that's not 18 inches. No fish is worth a ticket, to me!

The hybrids we stocked through our RHSA program are probably about the size of a healthy medium to large sandbass. So it is important to be able to correctly identify the fish we catch.

Much easier to tell by the stripes. Note the 4 very distinct black stripes that extend ALL the way to the tail. That is the best way to tell if its a Hybrid, IMO. If you post a pic of a sandbass, it can be noted that only ONE of the black stripes extends all the way to the tail, the rest of them are not as distinct and fade out before they reach the tale.

No fish is worth a ticket, to me! First, yes, there are tooth patches on the sides of the tongue on whites, stripers and hybrids. You can ignore those. You'll notice that the tooth patch in the photo you're questioning looks like it has a line down the middle, right? That split is the two patches - as the hybrid gets bigger, they become more obvious. The other thing to look for is the elongated tooth patch, rather than a triangular one. It gets easier as you handle more of them.
