Yeah, they are everywhere. One came up to the surface about a foot from the bank today, could have reached out and touched it. Got a video of two decent sized snapping turtles floating down the creek doing what I guess was mating? Dunno, lot of biting, hissing, and flopping over awkwardly, all the tell tale signs of mating, lol.

Yeah, watching big gar swim by your legs is pretty cool.
The copperheads are everywhere. Watch your step!

NT9 and NT10 recently. I don't think it really matters where on the creek at this point.

This is my first time posting, love this forum! While we're on the subject of Gar, I'm not gonna say where I saw it other than in the creek, but today I got to see a dinosaur! This beast was several feet long and by looking online at other alligator gar I estimate it to be close to or better than 200 lbs.... I kid you not! It was bigger than me! Awesome sight to see, hope to have one on the end of my line soon! Other than that sandies were slow today, 5 big females and maybe 30 small males...

There is a 1 per day limit of gator gar in Texas, so this could be one of those times you'd want to call the number on the back of your fishing license if you see anything illegal going on...Just in case the bow fishermen are reading this thread...
The alligator gar is one of our true native species, and they are a magnificent beast indeed.

So i dedcided to do a new resolution. Its keep as much as you can eat. With that being said, i mean only keep enough that you can finish. When i was much younger keeping 25 sandbass was the main goal, limiting out. As i kept fishing thru out my years, i decided to keep 15-10 ,and even 5 fish just enough for me. No one has do this ,but i learned to let fish go. I rather let them finish spawning and so as the years go by, those fished we released will double and double in numbers and possibly size. I decided to throwback sandies that are over 13 inches And keeping them at 10-12. Conserving the population with growing females and higher percentage of breeding rate with those females. Same goes for males. Plus on the upside i noticed we are catching alot more smaller fish in rayhubbard in the lake as well. This is my resolution and if people want to do it good for you. Im just trying to make ray hubbard and the followingyears of rowlett creek too be even better and better every year.
fishing is one thing. catching is another

Went fishing this morning. Fishing was incredible...last year Last year was definitely better on average size. Still fun to lose count of how many fish you catch even if they are small though. My rule of thumb is I don't keep it unless I think it's worth cleaning. For a sand bass, that's about 12" for me. I might see you out there Patrick. Got me some new waders I need to try out.
