I catch crappie all the time in spring bass fishing with a 5" and 6" black/copper worm.

Yep, Buster Brown 3 and 4 inch. I've caught 4-6 inch crappie on Lake Lewisville recently on large baits (Thump Chubbies) and the bait completely filled their mouths. Could not believe it; and they hit it hard! Was a lot of fun, but was wishing for larger ones (>10 inch)!
