Cant get link to act right sorry...
According to a B.A.S.S. official, Elite Series angler Dennis Tietje will be credited with a 54th-place finish at the Sabine River, negating the 33rd-place result he posted prior to the outcome of an Appeals Committee hearing regarding the disqualification of a competitor that resulted from a protest Tietje filed during the tournament.

With Tietje being moved back to 54th, his position following day 2, B.A.S.S. will adjust the Angler of the Year standings accordingly from 54th down. According to B.A.S.S., the 33rd position for the Sabine River event becomes vacant.

The Appeals Committee made its ruling and its only right to bring everything back to where it was, Tietje told BassFan on Wednesday afternoon. Its the final decision and we have to accept it.

Tietje confirmed he will return the $10,000 in earnings to B.A.S.S and added that hes anxious to put the ordeal behind him and shift his focus to the next tournament at Lake Guntersville, which begins next week.

A final decision was made so lets move on, he said.

Tietje filed a protest of Mike Kernan following the second day of competition at the Sabine River. Tietje alleged that Kernan navigated through non-posted private water to reach the area he fished on day 1 (click here to read BassFans reporting on the situation). Kernan was in 12th place following day 2 and Tietje was 54th, one spot out of the money cut. After B.A.S.S. disqualified Kernans catch from day 1, Tietje was elevated one position and allowed to fish on day 3 when he advanced to finish 33rd and earn $10,000.

Kernan appealed the ruling and last Thursday, a three-person appeals committee overturned the DQ and restored Kernan to 12th place, which earned him $10,500 and the accompanying points toward the Angler of the Year standings. There were lingering questions about Tietjes status as his protest and the benefits derived from it was essentially nullified as a result of Kernans appeal being upheld.

So THAT'S who filed the protest.

Sounds like some home cooking.

Good for Kernan.

Glad you brought this up...Ike Live is on iTunes now if anyone wants to hear it. They interviewed both anglers and I enjoyed the coverage.

For whatever my opinion is worth, I thought Mike's posts regarding this issue were very professional and he represented himself, BASS, and his sponsors incredibly well. , I would want someone like Mike representing and being the face of whatever my product or service might be. Class act!

And in case someone is concerned they still have not updated the standings. I am not saying I do not make mistakes but when I do I work to correct them ASAP. They should have also apologized to Mike for dragging him through the whole ordeal based on a rumor.

I'm sure B.A.S.S. will correct AOY standings prior to or after the first day of the Guntersville event next week. As for an apology, I think B.A.S.S. did apologize. They overturned their bad decision, they reinstated Mike to 12th, gave him the $10,500 payday and moved Tietje back to 54th and asked him to return his $10,000 check.

That's about as close to an apology from B.A.S.S. as one can expect. It's over and done with.

I could live with that if they would correct it. Why wait? to be honest this will probably be a huge plus for Mike in the long run. And I do applaud BASS for correcting the mistake or at least stating that they will. The bottom line is there was a knee jerk decision made on non vetted information & it effected Mikes life not just the result of the tournament. In my opinion it should be fully corrected ASAP & not drug out until the next event. As long as it is not corrected there will always be a question of whats going on?

I read that on Bassfan yesterday and then noticed the date. I wasn't sure if it was a joke or reality. Anyone know for sure?
