I have seen a big rain cause a current here on CC. The current will sometimes make the bite stop. It will also muddy up the water. Overall the rain doesnt effect the fishing unless it is a big rain that changes the water temp, color, & current. Sometimes it's the front that will change the way the fish bite.

In my expierence fishing rain does seem to effect the bite. Fish always seem to bite excellent just before and during but bite seems to slow after front moves through.

Didn't hurt it much at Lewisville this morning. I just put 50 filets in the freezer.

I do not think rain affects it much...BUT runoff definately will. The rain from yesterday did not stain the water today. They bit a little early, but the front definatly has messed up the biting in a big way. I think Guy caught 16 fish this morning, good day, and very surpising. I didn't think they would bite at all. AND I was right for the afternoon. I fished for over 4 hours and had exactly one bite. Normally, even on the worst of days, I can catch at least 5 or 6, plus some more bites. The last few days has been brutal.

Water temp fluctuation has more to do with fish biting than anything, in my estimation. Like I have said to the many nay sayers....turn off your fish tank heater for two hours...then feed them...and see what happens. They will NOT eat. If they could swim to another area where the temps where the same, would they eat? Yes. I think it is not nearly as complicated as people make it out to be. Drop the temp in the SAME water...fish become sluggish...if they can leave...they will. etc, etc, etc

Hi Mark,

I only use jigs. If they do not bite on jigs, I rarely ever switch to minnows...just do not care to fish like that. The water must be about 15 feet? in the slips. The fish have been on the bottom for the last couple of weeks. When the water was more stable, I could get them to chase it up...the last couple of weeks that method has not worked well as they will not get off the bottom, in general. The "elevator" method worked very very well when the fish will move....now, you pretty much have to move it slow, maybe a twitch...I raise it still...but if you get more than a foot up...the rest of the move up is a waste of time, as they won't move right now.

I have switched to feather jigs...but plenty of guys catch plenty using plastic also. Most of the old timers that use plastic use the little grub panfish assasin thingys.

I have seen weather changes of all kinds turn bites for all types of fish on and off. It seems to depend on a lot of other factors as to what the result will be.

Here is one thing though that I have noticed with all the fish I keep in tanks. On any day with a big drop in pressure the fish will be slow, they all group together and don't move around much.

On sunny high pressure days they are active and stay spread out in the aquarium.

While inside my house and in their water with a heater the fish don't seem much difference from a temperature and light standpoint they still react. This makes me think that the pressure change has the biggest effect on fish when fronts move in and out,
