Guys, I never fished for crappie before but I know they taste good so I wanted to catch some this spring. I live very close to Grapevine but I do not have a boat and no access to marinas so was looking for some advice as to where to catch them and what to use for bait. Are there any areas worth trying accessible from the bank at Grapevine or any other lake in the area? Thank you.

You will be able to get them from the banks soon. Some of the parks have some good spots. A bobber set shallow will help. Minnows or jigs will catch them.

As the lake begins to rise even more look for water backed up into the weeds anywhere along the banks and fish the edges. Move a lot until you find them. If they are there it shouldn't take more than 5 minutes to get bit. Long pole helps. Years ago I used a 16 ft calcutta cane pole. Those were heavy suckers but I was young and full of pep.

From Genesis: "And God promised men that good and obedient wives would be found in all corners of the earth."

Then He made the earth round...and He laughed and laughed and laughed!

Kids and I fished Grapevine yesterday and nothing. Tried Marinas, stumps, the dam, and we had minnows.
Maybe it was just an off day? But I'm pretty good at having off days on the water.

I found some on Saturday in 15-17 FOW. Tried brush all the way up to 5 FOW and nothing. Looks like they still have a ways to go before they're shallow.

I think that they are moving shallow. The spot I usually catch them pre-spawn has slowed to virtually nothing. What I have caught just prior were females full of eggs and males with their tales all fanned out. But who knows...lol...they are crappie.

I may try them this weekend, depending on how I feel. Got hit yesterday playing soccer and bruised my ribs - lots of pain but I'm hoping I can handle crappie fishing LOL.

Caught 9 really solid fish yesterday. All 5-10 feet deep on brush piles In the slips. All on jigs. Plus the sandies are schooling in the marinas so I caught about 5 of those, was a very entertaining day

I noticed the sandies schooling up in the marinas as well. Is that post spawn feeding on their part? I ask because they seem to have run the crappie out of the spots I fish.

I lost a spincast rig Monday to a sandie fishing the dock Monday. It was sitting there with the jig in the water, turn my back and its gone. The fish came back up for a sec

I went out Saturday 3-28 and caught 4 crappie(decent sizes) and 2 channel cats from the bank next to brush using minnows at trophy club park.
Hope this helps.

Prayers for speedy recovery.

Ranger7 - what area are you in? FM? GV? SL? Depends on what I can share about where to find them.

Thank you DFW-Fisherman. I live on the grapevine side but if there Are places I can catch them from the bank I am willing to drive anywhere on the lake. I went with a friend to Twin cove marina yesterday and was able to catch 4 nice ones but I don't have access to the marina myself so I am looking for bank spots. Also, what lures or jugs are best?

Thank you for the advice.
