Will be fishing rayburn for the first time this week. We're launching from the twin dykes ramp. Will it be ok to run to five fingers with 10 to 20 mph SSW winds?

What size boat are u runnin? Anything 18' + should be o.k., but if they're saying 10-20 plan on 20-30. In that case I wouldn't try it in anything less than 20' the ride back is hard part.

Running a 20 ft basscat. I hope the weather man is right with 10 to 20. 30 sounds scary

Won't b a fun ride. Doable but very rough. There's a ramp in 5 fingers and water looked good there early this last week but fish were still messed up from rising water when we were there. Rayburn is a beast in wind. Luckily there are lots of ramps in protected coves.

A puma is plenty but it also matters if you know how to drive in rough water. The worst wind on rayburn is nw but south winds can get bad too

You can launch at Fire Tower, Cassel Boykin, Norris, Shirley Creek, Buck Bay, Tiger and more ramps. There are plenty of ramps to use in practice and the drive will be less time than the boat ride.

Sam Rayburn has always been a wind swept reservoir. To run on large waves requires you use you trim and throttle to feather in waves. Tacking waves helps rolling off left or right and turning into large waves when you climb. It takes more time and distance, though will keep you dry and safe. Those who just bore into them are often sorry, or their partners are. Sometimes smaller waves are best managed at a 20 degree angle or more as they extend wave length in taking the angle and may improve the ride also.

Wnds for Thursday and Friday are forecasted to be 10-12 MPH, so expect 15 plus and more. They are SSW both days in east TX and we should be good at Umphreys, Twin Dikes area.

Dallas is different we noticed and we need to be aware things could change as DFW has 18 MPH SSW on Thursday and 20 MPH NNE on Friday.

Another thing to consider is that with a SW wind that it will blow into Five Fingers. There are some "Sheltered" areas but the wind will funnel around and into most of them. Recommend that IF it gets too rough on the way back that you turn into the West (Not directly into the wind) and go to the more protected west side of the lake and then run that shoreline and the dam back into the Boat Ramp.

Where is there a ramp in Fire Tower, Norris, Tiger or Buck Bay?

Ran it yesterday in a Cougar. Very rough but doable. We came back to Twin Dikes from five fingers. Lake is just over 5 foot high. Lots of flooded shoreline trees.

Only ramps on the north bank are powel, Rayburn park, five fingers, whippoorwill and harvey. The south shoreline caney area only has 4. Westwood, sandy, caney, preachers.

Not sure if you are using the ramp in the Twin Dykes campground or the one by Umphrey. The one at Umphrey is much better in all winds!

We're leaving out of umphreys. Anyone know anything about the Caney creek park coves? Any luck there?

Just trying to avoid the wind and catch some fish. Never been there before and safety comes first. That entire west side of the lake looks ok, but would like to know if anyone has had luck there or maybe there's somewhere else I should look?

Caney creek park is great if you like fishing behind 30 boats. It stays busy since its a good ramp with access to the forest area
