Went yesterday from about 8:30 to 3:30. My dad managed 11 sandies biggest was 13-inches. I managed...1 channel cat and a fella that was leaving had only managed 1 sandy which he handed off to us. Coming in off Rock Creek you have to go to the left and walk down to the last place the boats can get to. When we got to that spot there were about 5 boats that had come up and I saw one guy catch 3 pretty quick then nothing. We worked our way back towards the creek and stopped at the first deeper stretch and spent the rest of the time there. Dad caught the 11 keepers and about 8-9 throwbacks working a round head maribou jig (Yellow head! That was apparently important!) with white feathers under a cork. Slow retrieve with an occasional pause and twitch and he would get one every 10-15 minutes or so. 10 were males w/2 females. It would appear that its still mostly scouts. As of yesterday they could only get up to the boulders south of Rock Creek. Some probably went further during last weeks rains but the water level drops so fast through there that they aren't getting through in large numbers. Or they just weren't exceedingly hungry yesterday. We weren't seeing anyone catching numbers and didn't see anyone but my dad leaving with good stringers. If we get decent storms today and tonight and the water goes up a few inches I think it'll be on like donkey kong. On a side note I love fishing with my dad. That old man can pull fish out of thin air it seems. At one point I even switched to his exact jig and we fished the same hole he'd been fishing all day. Same presentation and everything but was I catching? Nooooooo.

Thanks for the detailed post! I am planning on spending a lot of time out there over the next 3 days rain or shine. Last Sunday I went and everyone was filling stringers except for me so I can relate to fishing same hole & presentation and getting smoked by someone fishing right next to you! Maybe this weekend will be my turn...

Brazos up by Cedar Bluff was hot today. Lots of big females. Water is really low and hard to get there. Hug the shore lines and go slow past Bee Mountain. Long slow trip but worth it. Some of the biggest sandies I've caught out of there in years.

What's the deal with all the people running half throttle through the Nolan, throwing wake on everyone? Is this ignorance or intentional?

There is no excuse for the mentally challenged, But i will say this i go out there quite often try to stay away on the weekends, but this year i am very impressed with how friendly most people have been. Lots i mean a lot of people fish that river. This year again it is very low. Boaters need to be aware, it is impossible to slow down for every boat and every bank fisherman. Some boats are better wot and on plane yes half throttle can make bigger wakes.
It is a challenge around others but people need to be safe and smart.
