Hey all,

I was wondering what the carp action on Lavon looks like. I want to take a trip out there to try and fish the "flats". I know that the water level is so low that most boat ramps are closed but I don't own a boat so that wont be a problem. Is it even worth it to go out there, or would it be a better decision to drive an hour and 15 minutes to Ray Bob? I know what flies to use and I have a good understanding on how to present a fly to carp, all I need to know is if there are carp to be caught on Lavon. All advise is welcome.

Thanks
Brendan

Thanks for the reply's 2Fly and Mike,

Looks like I might go over and see what the fishing is like. If I go I'll update y'all. If not I'll probably just head up to Ray Roberts.

i'd recommend a large black colored fly. i'd probably start with a size 6 then go to a 4 if i could get away with it. I've seen some 30" fish tailing in thigh deep water, casted to them plenty of times. just could never get them to take a fly. not sure if it was b/c they weren't interested or if it was b/c they couldn't see the fly. water visibility was only 4-5 inches. if the fish werent tailing you have no idea they were there.

I have caught few in Lavon. Water is not clear and it is very very hard to find places not sink up to your knees in mud. I caught them on crawdads. I was fishing from bank and would cast way out I front of them guessing where they were going. Work the fly to their path very slow. I saw lots of them at mallard park. Walk from boat ramp to 78.

Was also told east fork Marina was another good place. As I said its tuff. If you find a flat that is not 6' of goo please let me know, I live close.
