I saw this stuff http://www.seadek.com/p-25-small-sheet-18-x-38.aspx but it is pretty pricey. Does anyone know of anything cheaper or done something different to pad the foot area of the kayak? thanks

Wow, that is pricey. Are you looking for comfort, non skid surface, sound minimization, or all the above? EVA closed cell foam might not be the most durable, but would be the most comfortable and dampen sounds well. I used a $5 garden kneeling pad under my kayak seat for added comfort--works great Polyethylene foam will be more durable, but not as soft (comfortable) Neoprene will be the most water resistant, but not the most durable

Not really comfort, more non-skid and protection from my shoes/standing up. I'll look up the polyethylene foam. I saw that sponge neoprene on amazon the other day but wasnt sure how it would hold up on the kayak?

Considering the high wear area you plan on placing the pad, I'd go with polyethylene or rubber non slip strips (most durable)
I've seen them at Wmart and Academy Sports

Here's what I have purchased for non-skid protection --works really well. There was a small section of my trailer causing some abrasion on the kayak. Found some stick on rubber mats (3M adhesive backing) at Wmart today in the trailer/automotive section ($7.50 for two strips). They are designed originally for ladder steps. They've definitely helped solve this issue. Harbor Freight carries other sizes at slightly better prices

Thanks! That is pretty much exactly what I'm looking for. I'll probably get a few because I want to line most of the floor area.

Great. I'd use some Goop, Lexel, or JB Weld plastic fusion to bond the rubber strips to the kayak (the adhesive that comes with those strips is OK, but not as good as the others mentioned.
