I have read that a lot of Jeep owners have problems. I do not understand why a manufacturer would make such a carppy part and then bury it behind the dash where it requires a whole day to change one. I had to change one that was leaking in a 87 F150 but it was 10 years old and never clogged up. I just took the glove box door off an d was done in an hour. Since changing one has become such an arduous task I would think that manufactures would design them to last a while. I have heard of Jeeps under warranty with bad ones. I guess the daughter will be wearing her long handles for awhile.

Is it leaking or plugged?

Not leaking just real slow to heat up air. I let it warm up on Saturday and return hose was noticeably cooler than inlet hose. I am going to do a flush on the core and the full system this weekend weather permitting. May dump some vinegar in to core and let it sit a while.

Try a reverse flush.

Look up you tube on Ford Taurus heater core flush! They are really bad about stopping up! Some of the guys use certain stuff to clean them. Hope that helps!

How did it turn out? I had the same issue bad in December and did a reverse flush of the core and system. It actually didnt help. It started working when I installed an exhaust system. I guess something loosened up when I was banging around under the jeep trying to get the stock exhaust out. Good luck.

I can only work on it on weekends and the last 2 have not been ideal. I have 2 jugs of pink antifreeze and a flush kit ready to go. I was going to get the universal antifreeze but asked the dude at O'Reillys if it was HOAT compatible and he said he would not use it in his vehicle. For some reason they keep the good stuff in the back. I hope to do it this weekend if the daughter's schedule permits.

Dumped a quart of vinegar in core and let it sit a while. It flushed fine. Still no heat but it was time for a flush and fill any way. Must be the blend door which is another very common problem with Jeeps. My daughter is going to have to start saving. Thinking we should go ahead and replace heater core too while the dash is off.

Is it vacuum or electric actuated blend door? If vacuum, I would take a good look at vacuum hose that you can see under the hood.

It is electric. Next step is to get under the dash and see if the actuator is working. If it just the actuator then it is not a bad fix other then maybe having to take it to dealer to calibrate.

Things went from bad to worse. The temp gauge went above normal on her and she knew to shut it down. Problem was it went back to normal and she drove on. Got to her friends house shut it off and it would not restart and stay running. I foresee a wad of cash exiting the bank on this one.

Cut my fingers to shreds changing 2 heater cores on my 89 F-150 behind the glove box. OE started leaking at 75k. First replacement lasted 2 weeks, Advanced AP replaced defective core, second replacement was going strong at 120K when I got rid of the truck.

I replaced one in my 87 at about 110 and it was easy. Radiator cap was loose my daughters jeep so the overheating problem is fixed. It about 6 months I will have to work on the original problem. She did a terrible job of describing what it was doing so I told to her to just have it towed to the shop. I guess that is what to expect out of a 20 year women that thinks she knows something about vehicles. Had I known what she told me a day later I could have saved a lot inconvenience on her part.
