I bought the 9" flex bubba blade last year. The knife was dull when I bought it. I sharpened it with a good electric knife sharpener. For some reason I cannot get it sharp. I have tried other sharpeners and no go. I can maybe go 1 crappie without the knife feeling like it's dull. Anybody have any recommendations on a different fillet knife

I recently purchased a dexter and like it so far, but have been using an electric fillet knife lateky.

I still haven't gotten the hang of the bubba blade. Chuck makes it look so easy.

I have one and I've cleaned 1000+ crappie and it's still super sharp. 7" taper flex

I couldn't get it down either. I had three of them and sold them in the classified section. I have a dexter also, good knife. I will say the Bubba Blades were sharp, very sharp.

I bought a Work Sharp Tool Sharpener, and it works great for my Bubba Blade. I start with the course belt, then medium, then finish with the fine. I like to use a lubricant so that the blade gets a better edge on it.
The best tip I can give you, is that you can't push this knife through a fish like you do with an electric knife. You must use short, succinct slices so that you are actually utilizing the sharpness of the knife. Most people who have problems with this knife are using it incorrectly. I messed up a few sandies when I started out learning to use the Bubba Blade, but now I can clean three fish a minute. My hand and wrist no longer hurt from cleaning, and I don't need an outlet to get the job done. I will never go back to using an electric knife.

The best sharpener I've found for the Bubba blade (no relation), is the Lansky sharpening system. With it, you can keep the stones at the exact angle for the entire sharpening process. I THINK the steepest angle on the bracket is 18 degrees. Thats the one I use and I use all 5 rocks that come with it.
The blade on that critter is tough as nails and changing the angle of the grind is why you are losing the edge so fast.
I only use mine for stripping the rib cages out of a filet after using the electric. It's also great for cut bait on the boat.

I use the small hand held "v" shaped sharpener with ceramic and metal sharpeners. DON'T over sharpen or you will ruin the natural edge. Just four passes through both metal and ceramic v's and the bubba is sharp again. If you do it too much you wind up nicking the blade more causing it to wear easier.
