Been fishing all my life, but always from my boat dock at Fork or out of my bass boat. Retired last month, bought a pontoon and have it in a slip at a marina on Hubbard. Sold the fork place to be closer to the grands.

I'm new to the lake and plan to fish a LOT in the coming months before my wife makes a chore list.

Any suggestions for crappie, sandies, or yellows?

18' toon with a40 horse, side scan hummingbird.

Alan (Bubba)

Welcome Bubba!
Crappie should be coming shallow any time now at Hubbard.
Last tine I fished there was a week ago and caught 15. They were on brush 17' down in 21 FOW.
What marina are you at?

Hi Jon,

I'm at Harbor Bay for now, wife wants to move though, she hates the bridge traffic and we are closer to the one by Bass Pro. Don't remember the name of it, but going to check it out soon.

Glad to hear about the crappie coming soon! I go back and forth on baits, but love jigging and small slabs. I see a lot of timber on the north side of the 30 bridge, but looking at the map, it seems shallow and when the water comes up could be a mine field for lower units or trolling motor shafts. South looks barren of standing timber from what I've been able to see, haven't ventured out to explore yet.

I figure this year will be exploration and placement of some crappie tree things I make.

Alan

Bubba,
I sent you a PM. It's the little flashing red and white flag looking thing that is on the My Stuff button at the top.
Just click that and you can read it.
Thanks!

First - welcome to retirement and the good life! flag Understand your wanting to stay close to the Grands"! We are doing the same and loving it. Have two granddaughters (5 & 6) and bought them both Barbie rods and reels for Christmas! Was the most used gift of all the stuff!!! Have taken them to BassPro several times to fish their pond, and the older one loves it. fish

Looks like you are set up nicely as long as your sidescan is working correctly. That said - use it to scan the shores at or between 12-40 feet deep and "mark the brush"! Start in the north end, and enjoy life! popcorn2 Be sure to update us on your exploits! Good hunting/fishing!

Thanks for the welcome all!

My sidescan unit is a Hummer and I bought it 2 years ago and used it on my bass rig at fork. I love the thing! When I bought it, a local Humminbird rep lived close to Fork and he came out and showed me all the bells and whistles while we shared a 6-pack. I'm really looking forward to using it this week on the water.

Tied up yesterday and today doing honey do lists, but free tomorrow through Sunday... Just in time for the front to come in... But, I now have the time to wait them out.
