 Lowrance - Elite 4x DSI - setup questions

Recently installed this unit on my boat, wanted something fairly inexpensive with color, DSI, GPS and sonar and this was exactly that. I would rank myself a novice with these units, with that said after getting out on the water, while running the DSI and sonar all I could get was clutter(Like pen/pencil dots all over screen) from both? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Are there settings I have to modify out of the box?

IT IS A TRANSOM MOUNT, SLIGHTLY TO THE RIGHT OF PROP (IF LOOKING FROM REAR)
My worst day on the lake is better than my best day at the office.

Have you went into the settings and set it to the hdi transducer?

Have been playing with settings a little better still a lot of clutter will look for HDI transducer setting.
My worst day on the lake is better than my best day at the office.
