I sat next to somebody today from the forum. I probably caught 20 to 30 fish right next to him while he's using pretty much the same exact thing I am. Only difference was, he was using 8 pound line. Because he said he was tired of getting broke off. I was using 4 pound line I broke one fish off in the first 25 I caught. If you use 4 pound line for these 2 pound fish, you catch ratio will skyrocket. I proved my point today. Also if you're bringing your boats up the creeks, all your doing to spooking the the fish. You need to get out of the boat and fish a pocket. A boat came up the creek. As he pushed up into a pocket, he spooked about 200 fish upstream into our pocket. Helped us out a lot giving us a heck of a lot more fish. But, the fish are all up and down the creek systems. Just because you see somebody catching fish in one pocket, does not mean all the fish are in that hole only. It means you're doing it wrong if you're not catching fish above that pocket or below that pocket everybody's catching fish in. The fish are literally everywhere. If you're staining in the Deepwater you're standing on fish. Plain and simple to the point. I was fishing behind the boat and pulled out over 50 fish when they caught nothing. We landed well over 200+ fish today. Finessing a tiny fluke was the ticket. Seeing these fish come up and inhale your fluke is priceless. Rooster tails in the morning. That was probably my one and only trip to the creek this year. Not a bad day for the first trip to the creek this year!

Haha, Yang is a super nice guy. Glad he caught his limit so quick.

I totally agree on the boat thing. With my friend, we were fishing for hybrids this morning, i had a hook up, but the fish broke my line. My friend also had couple of hook ups, the fish shook off. The bites were slow and few, but it was there, till a 2 man canoe with electric motor ran down and cut through our fishing area, which was small. The canoe just killed the bite completely.

I have landed 1000's of hybrids on 4 lb line. I know lots of yall on here have too. Use the drag on the reel. That's why it's there. Then sometimes u just have to chase them if they run down to the next pool. You flat out catch more fish with 4 lb line, I think I have proven that many times.

Its obviously a little frustrating, being new to fishing -and using 4 lb line. Yes you might loose more gear and a few fish here and there. I just double the weight of the average sized fish I am targeting

2 pound fish - 4 lb line
4 pound fish - 8 lb line
5 pound fish - 10 lb line
.......etc.

I find it more fun to fight the fish instead of dragging it to the boat or bank within 5 turns of the reel.

Most of the creeks are very clear and obviously very populated with people. Fish are pressured. So in clear water they get very spooky.

Line line gives the lure a better presentation with the lure having more motion creating more strikes and detecting a strike with lighter line increases the less you go. The fish can see your line. They will move out of the fishing lines way as it approaches.

I did the video below to prove my point. On this day the wind was terrible. Took me longer to limit than normal. Most people this day I shot the video, no one caught more than 10-15 fish.

Its important to check your line every 5-6 fish to look for nicks and frays in your line. I respool my line every 2 weeks. I put 6 lb line halfway on the spool and then blood knot 4 lb line and fill the reel up that way. You will 90 percent of the time only use 1/4 of your line anyways. Keep the spool full of line. It helps cast better, and for the occasional monster Carp, Hybrids, Buffalo. So no reason to waste 300 yards of good line. 6 lb line is thicker than 4 ln obviously. Fills up the reel fast and you don't need as much 4 lb on there. I put 100 yards on at a time. When it gets low, I take off the 4 lb till it gets the 6 lb line and reattach new line.

You have to adjust your drag enough, to where you set the hook and you don't break off the fish. The drag should engage every hook set if to hard. Thus preventing a break off every time you set the hook. A 15 inch fish takes about a min or two to reel in. That's the fun of it- I thought....-the fight of the fish!

Carey,

Could not make it to the creek yesterday but had a 2.5 hour window to fish 2 local ponds with my 4wt fly rod. Tied on one of your Near Deere's and wound up with 29 bass, 13 bluegills and 2 crappies. The wind was really blowing so nobody else was fishing.

This weeks report: fish have been going nuts this week and we've pulled limits out on every trip. 1/8 rooster tails slow rolled or minnows with a small split shot above them dragged on the bottom. 4lb fluorocarbon has been the real ticket to success, if you don't use fluorocarbon the bite is not as good.

Fish are stacked in every pocket where there is 2-3' of water so many spots are being overlooked. If a spot is crowded just go find a pocket of 2-3' and the fish should be there. Anyway, I have two openings on Sunday morning for $75 a person. Txt me at 214.901.2551 if you want a spot. Thanks-Nick.
