RFC on this Bluegill Bream pattern. Its not clear finish coated yet. Mostly done in opaque colors and then misted with Iridescent on the back and pearl on the belly. If this one stays the red gill mark will go away. Observations and comments are appreciated.

I like it and I think that the red gill should stay. Indicates injury.

Keep it and leave the red gill mark.

You do some really nice paint jobs, imo this is one of the best ones I have seen you do. I would prefer it on a square bill or a deep diver, but the colors and pattern are great.

I usually like shad patterns on flat sided baits, but that's just my personal preference.

I sure would be interested in knowing what colors you used on the sides because I sure can't make this pattern work for me it always ends up to dark or lime green.

I would add a touch of lite purple to the tail section where it is white. Other than that it looks freaking great.

Welcome back Brad, hope the vacation fish was good. I thought about doing this one on a squarebill, and actually have in the past, but I wanted to see how that blank looked in a Bream pattern. I think White Crappie and Gizzard shad would look good on that shape too 2cents. As for the colors, I would be glad to share....first off let me suggest using glass eyedroppers to measure paint and thinner...you can get them at WallyWorld really cheap! Start with Yellow and mix in Black. Just know that a little Black goes a long way!
Here's the process:
Drop several drops of thinner directly into the airbrush cup....follow up with Yellow...then Black. More Yellow to Black results in a lighter Green...more Black....darker Green. Experiment around with the mix and find a shade that feels right to you. Be sure to stir thoroughly so the colors mix evenly. To fine tune the shade just dip your stir stick in Black or Yellow and use it to stir in the additional shade. I mix a lot of my own colors...but I let my wife examine them before painting as she has a much better eye for tone, shade and tint than I do. Don't let BC see this...ninja...as he has the best eye for color that I know of. Good luck with this....glad to see you posting again . popcorn

Thanks for responsethumb..I actually was trying to make it look lifelike. If you read my post "Paasche Talon Bit the Dust" you probably know I lost one of my my detail brushes and am in need of a replacement. However, I want to avoid using this sub forum as a sales site...prefer to keep it "building an pouring" so as to encourage folks to post their methods and work here. Just PM me and we can discuss the details on buying some of my work. texas

Interesting suggestion.....I did spray a little mist of thinned Purple below the lateral line and above the belly, more in the center of the pattern. The picture doesn't pick it up very well. Maybe I should mist a little more Purple color on the bait...or maybe you're saying the Purple should extend farther onto the belly near the tail?? Thanks for the reply, TXBN thumb

Bois if you look at the gills I have done in the past I always fade from yellow throat to purple tail, it's not a easy blend, but I have had the best luck doing the yellow first. I have tried it both ways and to me it looks better this way. I wish I still had the pics of the ghost gills I did in the past but they are at the bottom of the lake.

Yes, if you put a little on the tail and some chartreuse to. Not a lot but enough to show. Like I said it looks awesome.
