Anybody have any reports on crappie bite at Rayburn? What depth are the fish, and what are they hitting?

Any hints appreciated.

Jig.

I second the request, will be going up to big Sam Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. I'm flexable on lake areas to fish. Have a new LMS332c to try out. Along with Jig any hints, advice would be great, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays to all.

Cowdog, Barnett, Jig,
I suggest you read what I wrote here
http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/ubbt...rue#Post1048428
I have been very successful for the past two months by limiting out almost every day on the water. My worst day was 14 biguns with two over 15 inches long. In that post I describe everything I do to catch them. You can do it at the 147 bridge or use your LMS-332c to find brushpiles. I have used mine to find dozens of brushpiles since I got it last summer and have caught hundreds of fish from them. You can even see if there are fish on the piles with that unit. It amazes me every time I use it.
If you are in the 147 area, feel free to drop by my camp to talk fishin. I have the only "Mallard" camper (with a duck on it) at Lakeview RV Park. It is just down from the pool towards the lake. The camp is across HW147 from the entrance to Cassells Boykin Park. It's easy to find. I will be there from the evening of the 25th thru the afternoon of 29th.
Good luck

Windy, windy, windy. Tue thru Thursday but we did manage to catch 57 large crappie up to 14 inch. Bite on bridge was slow and mostly small blacks. Main lake brushpiles had fish if you could stay on them with the wind and waves. No fish on protected brushpiles in the coves. I think we did well considering the conditions.

Sandspike:
Do you keep your camper at the lake all the time? I'm looking for a place to put mine for about 3-4 months starting Mid FEB. Would like to go sooner but have to work another 4 months before I retire.Sounds like you do well around the 147 bridge area, I would like to leran that area, I usually go up around the 103 bridge and stay at Shirly Creek. Any info about the area (camping) would be appreiated.

Jim,
I know little about the 103 area. I went there several times a couple years ago but settled in the 147 area as it has a lot more to offer IMHO. Longer bridge and lots of brushpiles over a larger area with 3 good launches from short drive.
I keep my camper at Lakeview RV camp. It is owned by Gordon and Shela who live on the property. They are really good people and throw good parties for their clients like on the 4th of july etc. They treat their patrons as friends.
Gordon is a retired police officer so he does a good job of guarding the place. He always takes down license numbers on cars he does not recognise. He also knows every joke you ever heard and more.
The patrons are great people. I just don't know how many times I have been fed at many different campers. It is a great place to be. I go up alone lots of times but am seldom alone once I arrive due to all the friends I have made at that campground. It is like my Home away from Home.
The campsites are $65 per month Plus $15 per night of stay for utilities. You may leave your frig or freezer running all the time even when gone. You can park your boat on the beach at the campground. The docks belong to patrons, so get permission before using one. There is about 50 yards of open grass between the waterfront campers and the water which gives the place a very park like feeling. I love having that open area in front of my camper.
I think you can tell that I like it there very much and highly recommend it. Place tends to fill up in the spring, so don't wait too long.
If they have a lakefront lot open I suggest you take it sight unseen.
If you do decide to put your camper there, I will be happy to help you get on fish as I have with every other patron or TFFer that has ask me.
Sincerely,
Kyle

Thanks, Sandspike: Lots of good info, I hope to get up there next weekend or the next and lay claim to a lot for the spring. Can't wait to chase after some of those fish and enjoy the lake. Hope to see you there soon, and thanks again for the info.

Jig, I fished the 147 bridge last week. Early in the morning they were bitting good. The ones I caught on jigs were caught on red and white and gray jigs. About 9 AM they slowed to almost a stop. The wind got up about then too so I went in.The next day I went to the Chicken Coop area on Toledo Bend and sacked some really nice ones off the side of the river channel. My brother-in-law and my nephews fish at the 103 bridge. They have been catching lots of good size W.P's. He said go down river and fish the river edges. Sandspike, I launch at the Cassells Boykin ramp by you. I have a lake house at Tall Timbers by Harvey Creek . Love to fish the 147 bridge. Hope we meet sometimes.

Good fishing
Joe

Come by my camp. If you stop at the gate at Lakeview RV park and look down the road from in front of the grey doublewide that the owners live in...and look down beyond the pool and see a US flag flying in the tree next to the Mallard camper on the left of that road, I am there. No flag, I'm not. Drop by, sit on my deck and have a beer when I'm in.
Weather permitting, I should be there the next two weekends.
We can swap lies.
(Weather = howling wind and rain anything less, I fish)

My favorite weather to fish in is pea soup fog and totally calm. :0

Kyle,
I will be up either this weekend or the next for sure. Have been invited to a cull buck hunt down at Cotulla, may have to pass it up. Hope the weather is good both weekends.
