I did not want to hijack Lane's post with a question. Is he fishing that cigar float with a minnow and no weight, with I guess a bobber stop at top to set depth?

Not sure, but probably with a crappie jig, probably 1/32 or 1/8 under the bobber stop.

Put the plug in.

I read the tax return post about them catching that 3 pounder, and he said to set the hook when the float became upright, no longer laying on its side. I was wondering if anybody just fishes the cork with no weight and a minnow, or if you just pinch a small weight above the hook, to submerge the minnow. but not enough weight to make the cork stand upright. I was just trying to learn a new technique.

I found that interesting too... I use the bobber on it's side as a way of knowing if my jig is on the bottom, otherwise it floats upright. So I guess what I do is just the opposite of Lane's technique. The only way I've gotten a slip bobber with a stopper to stay on it's side is with a 1/32oz jig, because it wasn't heavy enough to stand it up straight by itself. I've never tried it with minnows, but I would guess it would work the same as long as it wasn't too heavy. Just my two cents...

My son who's 16 by mistake was fishing a Jig and minnow set up that wasn't heavy enough to stand up the bobber and never missed a fish! we were in 3FOW and the bite was soft, I missed several good fish but my son landed one every time his bobber started to stand up funniest thing but it worked for him.
