There will be a TWPD sponsored event at Emma Long to help reduce the numbers of grass carp which have ravaged the lake of its vegetation. The dates are April 24-26. You will get in the park for free and line up on the day use area (from what I'm told)
The grass carp will be donated to charity to feed the hungry. TPWD will have trucks of ice and collection bins for your catch.
Should be a great time.
I don't have all the answers, so asking me wont really do any good. The ACA guys are the ones that told me about it to start with.
PB Common Carp....... 38 lbs PB Mirror Carp........12 lbs 8 oz PB SM Buffalo........ 53 lbs PB Grasser........... 48 lbs 4 oz PB Blue cat.......... 17 lbs (caught on maize)

TPWD stocked the grass carp on lake Austin for weed control over the last few years. The grassers were hard workers.

they are hardy fish, would it not be feasible to relocate them to another body of water in need of vegetation clearing? when i was a kid we transported all sorts of freshwater fish back to our private pond in a huge cooler little over half full of water..

the problem is that promoting kill the grasser events like this only fuels the fire and feeds the ignorance of people who dont know the difference between white amur(grass carp), common carp, buffalo, silver carp, etc........ the go out on a carp killing spree playing god killing fish in the name of saving bass habitats or other so called game fish eggs.

i totally understand the same attitude is applied to the alligator gar. kill them to save the gamefish populations ect.. i still havnt really made up my mind where i stand with the grass and common carp. i still see them as invasive but i also see the benefits they can have on an ecosystem(and beyond that i do think they are very neat fish). i personally dont really get going out of your way to kill something that wasnt harming anyone..seems like we have plenty of harmful invasive species to kill just to kill things for those who feel the need to do that..

i am not a fan of grass carp and have always tried to distance myself from them in regards to what I catch and what i promote. Common carp are another story. They have been naturalized here and in lakes with a high predator ratio are in perfect balance for the biomass. Lake Fork, Austin, Lady Bird and Palestine are perfect examples. Bigg bass= Big carp
