I will throw them all year long if need be. There is always a hungry bass even in winter. But i don't actually gain confidence till at least high 50's to low 60's. Really depends on what topwater. Buzzbaits earlier in season, poppers and chuggers going into summer, buzzbaits and props again in fall.

I've always waited until the water hit 70 or so but I've seen my dad catch em when the water was 55 or so.

When I start seeing action on the water that warrants a top water. Partner thought I was crazy when I put a Spook on in February in 52 degree water. After back to back fish he started digging for his. Will wait to 65 to make it my first cast bait.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways with a fishing rod in one hand, 10# LMB in the other, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and yelling "Wow! What a Ride!

This is what I've been told and seen as well. Spawn / post spawn = top water. So to answer the question...... mid 60s.

low 60's but also what has been the weather trend warming/cooling. The lake I live on the frogs have been coming out of hiding and chiping/croaking on warmer nights. So I have thrown horny toads/ribbits with plently of bites and even managed to catch a couple. Poppers, buzz baits, devil horse have caught a few this month as well.

low-mid 50's if it warrants I'll casually buzz a zoom horny toad, low 60's I'll start considering making more commotion with an actual buzz. I generally let fish activity dictate use of floating frogs or poppers and spook type baits, but they are not huge confidence baits for me and I feel like I draw less fish in with those presentations than with others in the arsenal unless the fish are clearly asking for it.

I don't have confidence throwing em until the water is in the 60s. A lot of ppl will throw them earlier but I just don't
